I have a '92 GS500E and I seem to have some low end bogg down, and not much acceleration once in 6th gear, can anyone suggest what the problem might be.
Thanks.
Brian
What RPM is this at? You should be keeping the RPMs above 5000RPM at a minimum. I try to keep mine above 6.5k at all times (unless accelerating away from a stop sign or idleing of course). If you're below that the bike pretty much has no power (especially in 6th gear) which may be what you're experiencing.
Also, welcome and howdy!
My name is Brian, and this is me when I had my '92 GS500E.

check your plugs and report what colour they are, low end bogging suggests to me that you are running rich, but its not normally the case to you u.s. rider because of your harsh emmission laws.
check the gaps as well while your there, you could have stuck floats,
when was the last time you cleaned out the carbs, and the air filter,
i suggest you do that, clean out the filter, and pull apart the carbs and give them a real good clean, check the mixture screws float levels ect ect.
good luck :thumb:
Yes, the problem is.... you have a GS500
Seriously, I don't know how much riding experience you have but you will definitely experience a bog when accelerating from a stop if you don't rev the engine to about 3-4K and feather the clutch out. Anything less than 2.5K and the bike will just laugh at you and sputter a little.
... And poor acceleration in 6th gear.... ummm the GS has a 35HP engine and 6th gear is a fuel saving gear. You need to downshift for acceleration.
thanks for the tips, I'll check into it. Also, were is a good place to get a windscreen for this bike? Also any tips or hints to pep this bike up a little bit? Any places on the web to locate an aftermarket exhaust system?
have a look on the gs500 wiki
http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/
that will tell you about common upgrades and exhausts ect

Rev it higher. That should solve most of your problems and it will be a lot more fun to ride.
