I picked up a george foreman grill for 3 bucks at a yard sale.
Right now I am eating the first batch of burgers. Yum.
All ratings are a five star scale.
Ease of use: 4 stars
Would be nice to have an on off switch instead of having to plug/unplug it.
Cooking time: 5 stars
Preformed patties take about 2 - 3 minutes.
Ease of cleaning: 5 stars
It would only be better if it cleaned itself.
Notes: Burgers taste WAY better when they're not wallowing in their own grease. This little burger drains off the grease into a little dish that you can empty, and it is dishwasher safe. (Like I have a dishwasher, HAH!)
Downsides:
The standard model is kinda small, only capable of one, sometimes two burgers at a time. (The two would be very small.) But by the time you've eaten the first one the second is done. So the only downside is that you can't whip up a quadruple stack easily.
Being a college kid I'd have to say this is a must for the dorm/apartment. Quick easy, clean and no grease splattering!
Overall 4.75 stars (-0.25 for no power switch and small capacity)
Used can be had for as little as 5 - 10 bucks, new they go for around 30 - 40 bucks.
as an added bonus you can (on all the models i've delt with) flip the grease tray upside down and use it to prop the front legs of the the grill up to make it level, thus allowing you to make waffels on it.
foreman waffels are awesome.
try it!
You posted this, like, days before I moved into my new apartment.
Time to find me a grill... Where can I find these used at, aside from garage sales?
second hand stores.. ie goodwill/salvation army stores ect
you could also go for the feorge gorman knockoff. I think about every large company makes some rendition of the good old george forman grill. They are nice but i prefer to have my meat cooked over a bunch of hot coals. You can't beat good grilled meat
Three Words:
George Foreman bacon.

Oh i forgot about bacon, that is the best and now i want some, thanks destro :flipoff:
I would have to say the exact opposite... I had one a few years back and IT WAS CRAP!
I cooked a nice juicy steak on it and it came out WHITE.. looked like a pork chop. It was rubbery and tasteless... I packed it up and took it back.
A few years later someone gave me one as a christmas gift. I didnt even take it out of the box..
There is no way to get true grilled flavor and style without a flame... The George Forman grill SUCKS
forman stinks with streak, its alright with burgers, chicken, backon, pork. But i have to agree steak on a forman tastes like your trying to take a chunk out of a tire.
I got one new for 19.99 been through two apartments with it and it hasn't let me down yet. No steaks tho, don't have the money for those, but any kind of burger it does great with. and chicken. Dayumm the chicken.
If you put a steak on an electric griddle, you shouldn't be surprised if it doesn't taste good. Remember, a George Forman grill run on electricity, not magic.
Yep, my wife just got the bigger GF grill, so now she can cook 8-10 burgers all at the same time.
We used to cook steak on electric griddles all the time. It was good. we in fact used london broil - some hard ass meat, and it turned out pretty good. OK It wasnlt the forman, but it was a flat electric one. Took like damn 45 mins. I cook it in cast iron in 20 or so on low heat.
Cool.
Srinath.
I lived on the Foreman during college. Here is the ultimate college Foreman "way too late and too hungry for anything else" sandwich. Get some bread, put some spaghetti sauce on btw them, put some cheeze whiz btw them, foreman it, and whalaa......a mini pizza.
This was definitly one of the best college appliances I ever had. Never did cook steak on it and the grill is way better but it cant be beat for what its worth.
BTW, who cooks steak on a George Forman grill? I mean the cut of meat in that case probably costs as much as the grill.....
But anyways, my 4.75 star rating stands. Trying chicken on it when I go shopping.

poke the chicken with a fork and Marinade it in italian dressing for about two hours before you cook it. That is some of the best freaking chicken ever ... EVER
A George Foreman grill (both the large and the small--I have both) is a wonderful tool. Especially when in a hurry and you have to cook for 4. It works wonderfully on thick ribeye, t-bone, and salmon. 4 minutes (I like blood). I did a chicken in about 9-11 minutes I think. Also, some have told me that you can just toss a pile of veggies, onions, and bell peppers in it for a few minutes and they are great too. It can't replace a pit or smoker but it'll make life easy for you in a pinch. I bought the Hamilton-Beach model at Wally World(the big one). It was cheaper and does a great job too. Don't use it much but it's nice when you need it.
I have the George Foreman G5 (http://www.esalton.com/control/product/~category_id=C20009/~product_id=GRP90WGR;jsessionid=B3E669490EB70113D729D5B27CE6E616.sprod1) with the multiple plates. It's one of the best things I have ever bought. :thumb:
The G5 makes me hungry.
