I can't find anyone who carries #40 pilot jets (non-bleeder type).
Where can I get a pair? I need a source please.
It seems I can find the bleeder types everywhere, the ones with holes on the sides. Am I correct to assume the pilot jet below is the bleeder type?
(http://www.hiperf.com/acatalog/236020.jpg) Does anyone have this pictured pilot jet installed?
Thank you
For one source, see my reply in the old topic Jet Names (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2640).
Kerry, do you know what the part number is on that listing for the non-bleeder pilots? I was at Chaparral a couple of weeks ago and they didn't have them.
Has anyone used the bleeder type with or without success? I recall that JeffD had no problems, while someone else recently did have problems. Just curious what results others have had who've used them.
And what's the functional difference between the bleeder/non anyway?
Thanks,
James
I ordered mine through Cycle Gear, Cycle Gear orders them from Sudco.
srinath has a freind who is running the bleeder type. I tried the bleeder-type in both size 37.5 and 40 and they were both way too rich, the bike could barely idle and there would be this big cloud of gas hovering in the garage like a fog bank...(got a match? I got a headache).
The bleeder-type allows more gas to flow. The holes along the shank allow the pilot air circuit to draw more gas.
Sorry chimivee, I've haven't bought or swapped any jets yet - I've only cleaned 'em.
As I look at that (reduced) scanned page that I posted, it kinda looks like those VM 22/210 pilot jets are of the bleeder variety. I'll have to check the original picture in the catalog when I get back home today.
So I guess your original question stands. If the VM 22/210 series is a bleeder-style jet, what is the non-bleeder-style and where do we get 'em?
Kerry, before I posted this new topic, I did a search and found your post. I just couldn't tell if the jets were bleeder or non-bleeder type pilot jets. Thanks for looking for us.

Srinath does not have nothing...I typically dont like to post heresay...Yes I have heard of some one use bleed style and have it run fine... yes...I have never put them in in any bike so far. No first hand knowledge...Some guys on the mailing list said it was fine, many people here have not posted positive...So I stay away from commenting on it.
Cool.
Srinath.
Don't tell me I got the wrong ones. I ordered 40 pilots from denniskirk.com and I didn't realize they were the bleeder type. Do the non-bleeder type have holes on the side? Where do all of you buy the non-bleeder type?
That's what I'd like to know.
Not sure, but I believe that the dealer may be able to order them. I've just been too lazy to do that. I have a set of bleeder's that I bought at Cycle Gear and am trying to decide whether I should try them and risk having to do it over.
Everyone says don't use them... but I'm not sure how many have actually tried it. Hmmmm.

Oops, almost forgot to post back. The original image in the 2003 Chaparral catalog definitely shows holes in the sides of the VM 22/210 series pilot jet.
Rats!
Get the 40's w/o bleeders (w/o the holes on the shaft) at your local triumph dealership if suzuki doesn't have them. Some of the triumphs use mikuni carbs that also use this 40 pilot.

Okay! I finally found a local dealer that was willing to open a few catalogs until we found something. He found the Mikuni #40 pilot jets that we need (no side holes) in a Tucker Rocky catalog--Tucker Rocky P/N 42-7130. I had to order a pack of 4 so I'll have an extra pair for sale if anyone is interested. I'll put them in the for sale forum when I get them. They're $4 each and I can probably ship them USPS in an envelope for under a buck. The dealer said they probably wouldn't be in by the 4th but to expect them Monday or Tuesday after the 4th.
I got the bleeders and, again, it's way too rich. Can't even ride the bike until I get them out.

Hey Wingbolt, i've been looking all over for some of those #40 pilots. If you haven't sold the other two yet i'd be interested in buying them from you. Let me know what you need. Thanks.
I went to the dealer today (Suzuki of Van Nuys) and they had the non-bleeder type in stock. I showed him the ones I bought online and he said that MIkuni makes two different kinds, one for dirt bikes and one for street bikes. The bleeder type are for dirt bikes, the non-bleeder are for street bikes. So Manjul, if you're thinking about rejetting, hit up suzuki of van nuys, they have em' in stock.
Joecool,
Sorry, I already sold them to Rashad.
Good luck,
Wing
Hmm.. for those of you that tried the Bleeder type did you reset your Idle air screw? Because I am using the Bleeder type (with holes) and I haven't had any problems. Idles fine but it does vary from cold ~1k to hot ~1.5k but other than that its fine. I was told by the mechanic where I got the jets and he said the holes basically let the fuel airiate more (mix better) with the incoming air? :? Do many of those out there readjusting their carbureator know how to adjust the idle air screw.
Well before you take apart the carbs and spend more money on jets try to lean out the Idle circuit by screwing IN the idle air screw 1/2 turns each time. So go out and Ride your bike for 5 mins to get it warmed up. Turn it off. Grab a screwdriver and screw Clockwise 1/2 turn on both carbs and then ride again(around your neigborhood not surface streets). Keep doing this until your Idle hangs high or you feel as though you have lost power on the low end and then go out a half a turn.
Or you could put the bike on center stand, Put something in the rear wheel to stop it from spinning (It will even in neutral) and then start the bike. Go to one side and screw the idle air screw out until you hear it start bogging down (rich) then go in 1/2 turn Now hoping you kept track of the # of turns do the same # on the other side.

those guys at suzuki of van nuys are really helpful.. I have a 2001 so I cant use those pilot jets.. but I will ask the guys what they have.
yeah, i tried the bleeder type pilots but the mixture was so rich that i could only run the bike for several minutes and it hasn't started since. My local suzuki dealer has told me on numerous accounts that they could not get the non bleeder 40 pilots for me. After reading an earlier post though I asked them to search their Tucker Rocky catalog and sure enough they said they found it. If anyone is having trouble finding these pilots ask your dealer to search the Tucker Rocky cataloge. By the way, thanks everyone for all the help. I should get the jets in about a week. Lets hope their really the right ones.

Oh that's right...I forgot. I agree, Suzuki of Van Nuys seems like good people. In about a week, after I get paid, I'm going to go talk to them about servicing my bike. It's burning oil like crazy, and I still have the white smoke upon starting a cold engine problem. Don't know if the two problems are related or not, but hopefully it won't be too expensive to have fixed.
