today i took the bike out the herriman state park in rockland county which were amazing.....ended up in fort montgomery in orange county and took 9w all the way back down.....so atthe end of this trip where im like 5mins from the grage i keep my bike at....we are on a hill and i stop and lost footing...and down it went...hills seem to curse me.. :mad:..odd enough...i still havent scratched it..caught it right before it hit the gorund and let it down softly... :thumb:

does everyone have their complete foot on the ground with their GS??..
i could get half my foot down..but while walking the bike im using my toes...i feel comfotbale riding and everything else...but today when i was on the hill i lost footing whch led me to dropp it....im thinking if i should get a lowering kit...
btw...any riders from hudson valley..bike night tomorrow at bear mountain....wondering if any GStwins wanna go out there....
depends on your height/inseam to be able to touch the ground with flat feet. however, never fear as the suspension actually does "break in" and settle down. I bet you'll be able to get mor esure footing in a few months or so. keep practicing. we've all been there.
Before getting a lowering kit, try to get your seat shaved. My wife can put the balls of her feet down, on the GS and while she said is was kind of uncomfortable she got used to it. I always thought I had short legs but I can flat foot the GS I have a 30" inseam.
Other thought, don't know what type of boots you have but the one's I got have about an 1" maybe a bit more on the soles, and it's no slip type.

iight imma just be patient....hoefully the seat settles a bit more..i could basiclaly get the ball of my feet down....but its just wierd walking....a lot harder...

does any motorsport shope do shave the seat and how much would it run me for??.....i have some oxstar racing boots and the soles are not that big....

A friend of mine is an MSF instructor, he told me back when I was learning to ride on the road (we're talking a good five years ago pretty much to the day) that short riders learn inheritantly different and sometimes better skills than tall riders. I was somewhat confused when he said this to me. He then proceeded to explain to me..for the better part of two hours, that shorter riders learn quickly to watch where they're stopping, pick better parking spots, become completely aware of gravel and other road hazards, and because theyre usually limited by their height, pick smaller displacement bikes to learn on rather than picking the first supersport they can find. While this isn't always true...I try to remember that when I'm cursing my short inseam.
Motorcycle specific boots should help with traction... My Sidis have some damn sticky, grippy soles on them... But, it's still rough when you can only get the ball of your foot down (I had that problem on my buddy's '78 CB750 with the HUGE seat).

lol...excuse the laziness and thank you for finding that for me...im gettin alot more comfortable with the bike and like Onlypastrana said im extra careful where im stopping and parking...
Slide the forks through the triples. It's free and easy. Search "lowering" and/or "slide forks triple".
5'6.. Hmm. I don't feel so bad about having height issues anymore. I'm 5'3, and the only real problem I have with the GS is backing her up. I have to stand next to her and grab the bars and the grab handle. Well, I guess the other problem I have is not running into cars that are stopped in front of me. :laugh:
Kwel-ty - yea buy a damn cruiser stupid ... them got like 25 inch seat height ...
OnlyPastrana - I know this guy who bought an SV and he was like 5 foot 3 maybe - max, he never dropped his bike and he did learn it all ... and in 6K in 1.5 years never dropped it ... but he said riding got so stressful ... he never rode it after he was faced with work stress ... So ... yea there is a price ... I tossed him the keys to the 1100 virago and he literally fell over with joy ... he rode it and went ... man this is what I should've got ... it fit him like a glove ... people say that of helmets and condoms ... fit is everything ... I guess bikes should be added to that list ...
