First of all, I dont really recommend riding like this on a regular basis, but in the face of skyrocketing gas prices I thought I would see exactly what kind of mileage I could wring out of my SV650S. I usually get around 35-40mpg riding to and from school (some highway, some 45mph with signals, and a little bit of town riding).
Last week I started granny-shifting around 4-4.5 krpm, cruising at 3500-4000 (not quite dogging it, but close), and pulling the clutch on long hills. The result: 67 miles and a 1.3 gallon fillup!!! That's 50 mpg right on the nose! I wonder what a GS could manage under similar conditions :dunno_white:
My SVS gets 50MPG normally (commuting ahem....above the speed limit....about 75 miles/day round trip)..... If I granny rode, I'd probably get 100MPG!
i don't really granny ride but on the highway i get right at 70 mpg. I made it 22x miles and hadn't hit reserve but was at my destination so i filled up anyway
Around town i prob get way less but that is cause i live a couple miles from work.
The Super Hawk gets 30 mpg. And I have a three gallan tank. I fill up quite a bit. Like three times every weekend.

That's a bike that can pass anything on the road... Except a gas station.

Yes. Indeed. The SV had a bit more range, but not much. Maybe 140 miles on a tank.
yeah i know the feeling too... I went from 5.3 gallons on the GS to 2.6 on the DRZ... still getting over 50 mpg tho.
Yeah I'm not going to lie...my GS gets 45mpg every single fill up. I like to wring it out...but jeez! This is with the motor and sprockets 100% stock.
-Turd.
My personal best on the my GSe was 66mpg while the bike was stock and I was on a long trip. Not really grannying it either
Worst was 40mpg while stock. I'm guessing it was while cold and doing a lot of short trips to campus
These days I get around 53 mpg on my 19 mile commute with rejet. Not too bad for a lot of STOP and GO driving.
From the others' reports, it seems the F's get better mileage probably due to carbs/tuning and/or maybe the fairing, though I would think that just adds weight
GS I average about 55ish on the 750 I get 45ish
If I dog it like a turd (my bike HATES low RPMs BTW) I can get 70 or so.
odd for a 650...I thought it'd do better. I get 55~60 on my TLS if I ride the speed limit.
Is the TLS fuel injected? I would have guessed you would get similar miliage to my bike.
Or did you add a Mr. Fusion Flux Capacitor or something?
darn, and I thought I did so well
guess i'll have to hit the open road to get the good mileage. Unfortunately, that sledom happens anymore. All I have is my daily commute

I know what you mean... My only riding is too and from work, but at least it's riding. I'd really like to go on a long distance trip like I did last summer, but I just started working so I can't take a week+ off, so hopefully next summer
Don't clutch it on hills if the engine braking isn't enough to slow you down. You actually use less gasoline by leaving it in gear because gravity is helping to turn your engine instead of gasoline alone.
worst 45, best 60, average 57mpg
the odd thing is that anything I do to hop it up also seems to give me better milage. When I put my pipe and filter on it the milage didn't change, but when I rejetted from 122.5 to 140 the milege improved by about 4mpg :dunno_white: I guess it's just optimized.
I can only do that well riding the speed limit with my "spirited" ambitions limited...since I usually ride at WOT and 100mph I have a hard time breaking 40. Yeah the TL is fuel injected.
i avg 55-70 on the gs
When I was on the GS full time, it was probably averaging 55 mpg. With the RR, I'm averaging 42 mpg.
I average about 35mpg on my SV1000S. The dang thing is just too much fun to ride slow or with the front wheel on the ground :icon_twisted:
I was getting horrible gas mileage. I got around 30-35 for a while after rejet, k&n lunchbox, pipe, and living by the coast. I was wanting 50 so I plugged up all of the california crap, and now we'll see what happens. Hopefully around 45-50 but I also have a 14t front sprocket so I don't know how much it will affect gas mileage.
Mine gets 50MPG whether I'm cruising a 2-lane at 60 or the interstate at 80+.
The SV gets 45-47. Some of the early 2nd gen SV'rs are reporting as low as 35 mpg. I think they need to check their TPS. ;)
i get better mileage on my bike than any of you. i never have to fill 'er up at the ole gas station. hmm...maybe that has something to do with not having a "real" bike yet, just the ones i dream about.        i know, i'm an idiot. just trying to be funny.
