How many of you ride your GS up curbs?
Or, how many of you know how to ride up a curb?
I used to ride all of my bikes up curbs, except the FZR400, because I didn't want to scrape up the lower fairings. My little 250 even had a 16" rim, and I could still get it up the curb.
I've had to jump a few curbs before. Not really an issue, I've found. You have to do it like you're rock crawling in an off road vehicle, sorta. Take it slow and be careful with your throttle inputs. When I do it I get the front wheel up by getting the tire up against the curb, then slowly applying throttle (with mucho clutch slippage) in order to get it to "climb" the curb. After it's up I'll inch the bike along until the back wheel is against the curb and then repeat the process. Going down is about the same, except a lot faster.
I had to do this just yesterday (or this morning, really) when I was taking pictures because there was no ramp down from the place I was at. Not too difficult.
going up and I baby the bike over...a hard hit can bottom your suspension and drag stuff not intended for draggin'. Going down I just rev up a grand or so higher than I'm traveling and pop the clutch...roll the rear down and set the front down nice and soft (you never want to go off a high curb nose first or you'll end up on it).
an old guy puled out in front of me and straight into traffic going against me, he hit someone and i swerved overa curb into a parking lot.
it was only in a 25mph zon, but it was only a day or 2 after i bought my bike, and this is my first bike!!
I've ridden on sidewalks, but I haven't jumped a curb. :dunno_white:
i take my bike off jumps, yes i jumo them all the time
