OK so in the process of changing my oil I managed to shear one of the bolt/studs that hold on the cap thingy where the oil filter is behind. Has any of you done this B$ and is there a Fix. I am guessing at very worse I have to drill out the old bolt and tap a new one in the metal. As it is late and I have to be at work early I havent taken it back apart to check in how this all goes together but I was hopeing one of you may have seen this before. Thanks. Upon futher investigation it looks like I can order the stud bold P/N 01421-06208 For a $1.38. I dont know how had this will be to change but I guess I will try that first.
It's been done by many people on the board. The search feature is your friend.
If some of the bolt is sticking out, you can try:
Cut the stud with a hacksaw so that a flat head screwdriver can fit and try to take it out.
Weld a nut onto the stud and take it out that way.
Use a screw extractor (unlikely to work, though).
If nothing is sticking out, then if I'm not mistaken, then you should really, really take it to a pro. You don't want to accidentally drill out what's behind the stud. Of course, that could be the exhaust bolts (search...)
You CAN NOT ride it this way, at least, you won't be riding it for long, because you can not keep it from leaking. By "leak" I mean pour.
Edit: Oh, you could also try to take it out with vise grips.
check my site. I have a write up on how to repair that. its really common. the metal is very delicate and that happens all the time.
If the hacksaw doesn't work try using a dremel. Actually fack the hacksaw, use a dremel to slot your bolt.

yeah dremel should work perfect use a small disc and grind a notch for a flat head. I love the dremel, i just gotta get my own now.

Actually the case of the overtightened bolt/stud is the one occasion where EZ-outs work really well. Since the reason for tearing the bolt was not a tight/ rotted thread you have good chances that the bolt comes out with little torque.
Dremel: The best tool for nothing. The second best tool for everything. :laugh:

I can't believe no one suggested this already.
VICE GRIPS are your friend. I stripped two sutds and then the bolt covers. I ended up replacing all three studs and all three caps and getting a new gasket. The studs are threaded. They screw out. Goto Autozone and get a $10 pair of vice grips. WELL worth it. It may take a while to back the studs out. because you have to keep clamping and unclamping the vice grip but go slow and be patient. It will work.
I recommend just doing a full replace of all studs and bolts. They are pretty cheap and it's pointless to replace two and find you still have a leak. Better safe than sorry. If you have even the slight stripped bolt it will leak.
When you put the new ones on do only FINGER TIGHT. then do like 1/16 turn with a wrench. Barely move it all, just make sure it's snug. Then you're set to ride!! :thumb: :thumb:
