Title: TOTAL noob question... sorry
Post by: mjn12 on August 27, 2006, 09:11:28 PM
Hey, So I'm sure this is a total noob question, but I've never ridden anything but dirtbikes and those didn't need a key
sooo..

What is the "Lock" position for on my ignition switch.  I've tried searchign the forums and putting the switchin in that position myself, never could get it there.

I think that would be the steering lock. Put your steering at full left(or is it right ) and turn your key to "lock" it will make moving the bike a bit harder without the key ;)

I can't remember what position that is but...

You have FOUR positions.

Lets start from the top position...

1)  RUN - Pretty stupid to explain.  This makes the bike able to RUN

2)  OFF - Again...  Explaination not needed.

3)  I think this is the LOCK position.  This will lock the front forks all the way to the left.  turn the front wheel all the way to the left and push the key in a bit while turning to the LOCK position.

4) P=    This locks the bike but turns the parking lights on, but not the headlights.

lock works the same as on a car, where lock um locks the steering wheel. lock on a bike locks the bars/forks full to the left. you wont be able to get the key into the lock position unless the forks are all the way to the left.
minor theft deterrent. if someone wants it they'll pick it up and carry it into a van. more for the random idiots that want to move your bike for god knows what reason (happens).

I find the best theft deterrent is watching your bike 24/7, with like 4 armed guards with rifles and sub-machineguns.

Just be sure your key is pointed toward lock and not park every time....don't ask me how I know this...  :icon_lol:
