That was a long video just to get to the crash, but OUCH!!!
That HAD to hurt.
Yeah I knew something bad was going to happen about the time he kicked it into 5th and you hear it hitting the rev limiter.
All and all though it looked pretty not so bad.

The only thing I don't get about rally races...
I've never seen anyone pass another driver. Actually, I've never seen more than one car per video shot. Do I just have bad timing?
Or is rally racing all about lap times?
Theyre timed events. in the true sense of rally racing, you have a specified amount of time to make the next checkpoint. you lose points by being late...or early.
with the wrx hitting the market there have sprouted up some rally driving schools. one of my buddies took a few with his wrx.

What do you mean you lose points if you're EARLY??? That makes no sense to me at all.
you are judged on how well you manage time/distance. if they tell you to get from A to B in 15 minutes you need to do it in 15 minutes. otherwise you lose points. the navigator is more important than the driver.
although I think contemporary rally racing runs on overall elapsed time.
it's a method of classing racers and cars. You shouldn't be able to win by haivng a car with twice the power as all the others and what not. That way it involves more skill than car. The one closest to the designated time wins.
So it's all about pacing yourself and getting to the destination on time (meaning exactly on time)
yes, thats why the navigator is so important. he determines route and speed.
I guess that navigator in the 911 crash was snoozing
I dont think they have the audio...
try this different video where you hear it all>

and this one, at 66 seconds, check out the pissed off driver. must be italian.

here's another video of a short stage-very short. you can make out the left-right commands from the navigator...pretty cool.
