Title: Honest private sale value of my GS500
Post by: esokitty on August 30, 2006, 11:02:33 AM
Hi guys.

This is a sad subject to even consider, but I'm thinking about selling my bike.  I'm currently expecting a baby (Oct 25!) and have a ton of bills to pay off.  Also, seeing as I am not quite the worlds best rider  :icon_rolleyes: and manage to drop/dump the bike repeatedly, I'm thinking that as a single mom of a young child, maybe risking my life on 2 wheels isn't the best idea. :(

I know I will NEVER find the deal I found on my purple lady again so Im worried that should I ever feel confident enough ot ride I'll kick myself.

1991 gs500
lots of asthetic damage - scratched/patched tank, scraped frame.
frame straight, as far as I can tell.
runs decent. tires decent
21000 miles

basically, what is the least  to the most I could expect to sell this for?

I can answer any sepcific questions if you post back.

Thanks!

I bought a 92 with 24k miles. Pretty much the same damage as you. At 24k, it's been around the block a few times. Ran great though. I paid $1100 for it. I thought that was a steal. You might be able to get $1400 or so. GL. Grats on the child.  :thumb:

Congrads.
Yea New Hamphi ... land of the frozen tundra ... no question ... bikes come up there cheap in winter ... just find some sucker to test ride it in the dead of winter and ride it over to your place.  ...
Cool.

Long time!  Congradulations!  Sorry to hear that you may have to let the GS go, but at least you wont have to worry about it; storing it, the kid riding it without your permission...

This time of year.. that far north.... I would have to say no more than $1000.

I bought my 94 last year with only 180 Miles on it for $1000. and It was in MINT shape.

If you arent pressed to sell quick you may get a bit more, but it should be a quick sale at $1000.

NADA says low retail 630, average 830.  That's what they are getting at dealers for them.  I wouldn't expect much more considering the fact that it has some expensive (though relatively minor) damage.

$1000 OBO.  I bought mine with 10,300 miles, 1992, with paint that looked great from 10 feet away for $1100.

I also spent about 45 minutes tonight with a drill and a couple screw drivers pulling out a pilot screw, so I don't think my deal was that amazing right now.  Don't sell yours for less than $800 if you can help it.

sad day when you have to sell your bike
hope it was a fun ride while it lasted
you will(should) have good memories from your wild youth as a biker chick
and some day when the time is right.....you'll be back,  kinda hard to give it up
