Title: Strange fuel problem
Post by: pmdepr on August 31, 2006, 05:11:59 PM
I finally got my bike on the road. Only trouble is that it only seems to run with the fuel in the PRI position. If I leave it in the ON position it starves itself under load. The line does have an inline fuel filter that was there before. I thought maybe the filter was clogged but the fuel all runs through the same line to the carbs. Your suggestions are very welcome.

Thanks,
Pat D

I'd checkthe vacuum line for leaks
then check that the shutoff valve on the tank is fully open.

Yeah, your vacume line is probally either cracked, disconnected or missing. Once you fix that you shouldn't have a problem. If you still have a prob, your petcock may need a rebuild or replacement. Or just ride with it on prime, the only problem with that is that you lose your reserve function.

I had a fuel problem a couple of months ago. I was just out riding and my bike turn off like it had just ran out of gas- except it wasn't out of gas. After I swiched it to reserve it started right up. It couldn't have been anything with the fuel line because switching it to reserve wouldn't change anything. Since this incedent it seems to be running fine, no hint of a problem. I guess it's just one of those things that you just will never know exactly happened and won't care as long as it doesn't happen again.
