Picking up a 1995 gs500e this Sat.
And to make everyone here happy, I'm trading my 2004 sv650s on it (he's giving me cash to boot obvy).
Needed cash for a move....yatta, yatta....
Anyway, made the switch from svrider.com to gstwin (hold your aplause).
Want to pull a full on cafe out of the gs as a winter project (live in ND).
Has anyone done a straight pipe? With possibly a simple turnout?
How's it sound like?
Perform?
Jet kit used?
Problems?
Positives/negatives?
I'm sure I'll be using advice from this forum a lot.
Also, I'd like to say that I'm surprised no one (that I've found) has tried to pull a cafe out of a gs500.
I know it's twin-spar and everything, but I think it would look pretty cool (if someone has, please fill me in with pics/advice).

I've got a shorty supertrapp on mine (for now, came with the bike). Anyhow, it's pretty loud as is. For fun, I rode it with all the disks and back plate off. The neighbors really hate me now. It was loud, real loud. Sounded kind of cool at idle but was pretty much deafening once I got in the throttle. It's somewhat cool on a chopper but a straight pipe would be lame on a little 500 twin. Just my 2 cents worth. Plus it's not a v-twin so it doesn't have that cool sound.
I had a muffler "temporarally" attached with a hose clamp, a pop riviet and silicone and after 4 months it fell off. I rode with no muffler for about 3 weeks and it sucked ass :cry: and sounded like crap. It sounds kind of cool at idle, but it's super loud and anoying when you're riding. Earplugs weren't even enough. Aside from being loud,it sounded real bad, not like an open pipe harley or ducati but just bad. Plus on a 500 you can't back it up. Everyone hated me, especially my neighbors, when I came home at 2AM. I would strongly advise against it.
I bet a megaphone type muffler could look prety cool if you were going the cafe route. Some dual under seat megaphones could be pretty badass :2guns: anyways, they are cheap too, check out JC Whitney.com for some cheap old school pipe ideas.

yeow ... that's like putting $4000 spinners on a 1975 AMC gremlin. Before you laugh - I have seen it. I ahve also seen tiny ass 10 inch wheels on a new lincoln navigator. It had been lifted but was still lower than the belly of a pregnant slug.

Probably won't go straight due to noise...but something that sounds good and has the straight "look".
Cant' have a big can on a cafe (no rules I guess).
Also, I think that I'm going to need to alter the subframe so it's not angled up as much, and not as long. Looking for more of a straight back look. Then add a cafe style seat.
Is the best/easiest way to do this just chopping it off and welding the same thing on but at a different angle?
Bending original?
Chopping old off and adding a...cb750 or whatever subframe?
One more thing.
Where can a guy find a tutorial on the gsxr 750 front end swap?

Chopping a piece out of the lower tube of the subframe, then bending the upper tube and rewelding I'd say. Mind rear wheel clearance, though.

Thought about taking a peice out and bending the top....how difficult to bend down?
I suppose doing it this way would allow me to use the original seat pan. That would be a plus. Just have to mod the foam/cover/front/rear.
