Could you all help me know if there is any significant difference between the tank models for the 1994 GS500E? I have looked at the microfiche for this tank and have found the following models; K/L, M, N/P, R/S/T. As far as I can tell the tank is the same for all four models; what changes is the decal and paint selection. My bike calls for the R/S/T model. My question is will the K/L model work as a substitute and still fit on my bike?
The reason I want to go with the K/L model is that for whatever reason the tank costs less than the R/S/T model. I have no idea why. Also I will have the bike painted so color and decal does not matter.
Thanks,
GO COUGS!!! :)
All model gs500 tanks should fit up to 05. Not sure about the 06 tank.. O0

I dunno about that.
The '89-'00 tanks are the same. The '01+ tanks are the same.

His argument is that they will work. And they will. They just won't mate up with the plastics/seat properly. But yes, if by "work" you mean "sit on the bike, and hold fuel, but not necessarily mount up correctly, and not look good" then yes, all tanks will "work".
also be sure about the state the bike was made for originally. the CA tanks are a little different than the 49 state tanks.
89-00 tanks are all the same.
01+ are all the same.
89-00 ->01+ or 01+->89-00 tanks technically can be swapped but the seat and tail bodywork wont match up. they all will fit the frame.

Whats the difference with the CA bikes. I some how ended up with a CA bike and i am in NC. I think its one becuase it has that carbon thing under the seatr nexts to the battery :thumb:
not sure exactly but I think there's an extra vent at the tank, and possibly something inside the tank extra on the CA bikes. but yeah, the carbon canister is CA specific too.
also, the ignition advancer is set differently, retarding the ignition more I think.
So my bike is more retarded.
I think the CA tanks are the same as non-CA tanks or at least very very similar... the only difference is the CA models vent the tank to a carbon canister, while the non-CA models vent out by your right foot. They both have a vent hose barb on the bottom of the tank that a hose connects to, the hose just goes to different places on the different models. In any case, they are interchangable for all you're concerned
The CA tanks are 1 liter smaller. I don't know why.
