Looking to "straighten out" the rear subframe to get tha linear cafe look on my 95e project bike.
It has been suggested that I chop and take out a small section of each arm of the lower rear subframe and bend the top arms down - weld the bottoms back to the frame a I got it.
I get it up to the part of actually bending that sucker.
Any suggestions? :dunno_white:
Should I invite me "big" friend over to have a sit on it?
I'm clueless as to how I'm going to bend that sow where, and how far I want, without the proper tools (if there is any).
Note: I do not own a torch
Thought: triangle notches on the underside of the upper arms of the subframe where I want it to bend. Re-weld when finished?
If I'm going to be doing this project, I better get an avatar.
Next time.
Thanks in advance
You put up your own avatar (100 x 100)
I dunno, both methods sound very bad......
I think you'll have clearance issues with your rear tire at the top of the suspension travel.
Good luck "straightening" the subframe rails. They are a lot stronger than they look. I used a 2-ton comealong and had minimal success fixing a bent one. Cut and reweld was my best solution.
Dont try bending it cold, the metal will work-harden and fracture.
If you can get the area cherry-red with oxy-acet` it will soften enough to bend but it will be difficult to form it accurately and the heat will weaken the metal. I am with DG, chop and weld, but remember to measure twice and cut once
