OK, I swapped the K&N filter (didn't rejet) for a stock filter and I'm STILLĀ :mad: getting the bogging -or more accurately-hesitation problem.
This happens in 5th or 6th gear right at 4000 RPM.
It ALMOST seems like it's not getting enough fuel yet I have no problem taking off from 1st gear - it runs out great. I have tried to set the petcock to PRI and run it like that but with the same result at the 4000 RPM mark.
So for all you smart asses out there that said this problem was directly related to putting in the K&N and not rejetting I would love to hear your diagnosis now.
1 or 2 washers under the needle....
adjust idle air screws 2.5 ish out
do a plug chop...

Even if it hesitates in Pri, it still doesn't rule out the possibility of a fuel starvation. PRI pathway is significantly narrower than the normal fuel path when in ON.
Your's is not a CA model, but non-bleed 40 pilots?
What shape are your plugs in. It takes more spark in higher gears. Also check your diaphrams for leaks.
Am I the only one who thinks that being at 4K RPMs in 5th or 6th might not be helping? :P
You are correct, but I'm thinking that @ 4k in 5th, may be a problem. 4k in 6th, is obviously a problem: too low rpm for that gear, but I can cruise @4100rpm in 5th (stock gearing and tire sizes).

I don't think this is the problem....Imagine sitting in the chair you're probably sitting in right now and rocking back & forth quickly but only 2 or 3 inches forwar or back. This is as good example as I can give you.
Now, go out on your GS and put it in 5 gear @ 4000 RPM and give it a slow but steady twist of the throttle and tell me what you experience.
It's still too lean. Now, I know you've checked your drive chain slack, you're pretty good about that. Steady throttle settings are controled by the next lower fuel circuit, which would be the pilot circuit, at this rpm, in this case. Roll-on is mostly controlled by the needle and throttle slide cut-out, but since we can't change the shape of the cut-out, we're left with shimming up the needle.
I get smooth, but practically power-less acceleration from 4k in 5th, but that's because I'm nowhere near the powerband. You will get smoother acceleration higher in the rpm band, but that's not what you're asking for.
yeah i usually run mine up to 6500 to 8000 b4 i change any gear cause your more or less in the bikes power band/mine also bogs in 5th 6th at 4000 rpm thats y i run tha rpms up cause it aint gonna hurt tha bike --hopefully :thumb:
