Hi everyone,
I bought a 2003 GS500E and was just wondering if it is neccessary to install an oil cooler on the bike. IF so is it possible to do and what parts would i need ????

Oil cooler addition would require a new oil pan, possibly new oil pump, and the mounting tabs on the frame added.
It was only added because the F model's fairings diverted windflow that additional cooling was required. You should be fine without it, especially up in Canada.
ahh ok cool, im used to having liquid cooled bikes so i just wasnt sure how hot the gs could run. Im just worried about the in town stop and go stuff. I will probably hold off on the oil cooler for now then and see how things go.

The GS didn't have an oil cooler from its birth in 1989. Even then, the engine was based off a 1970s model which also didn't have an oil cooler. This means that the GS500 engine (which has been relatively unchanged since 1989) stays well enough cool in commuting conditions (which it was essentially designed to be, a commuter) that an oil cooler wasn't necessary. If you jet the bike correctly if you mod it then it will be fine.

if i run a Vance and Hines exhaust and jet the bike would it run hotter ?
yep slightly, a minor rejet would be a good idea
If you add the exhaust and re jet correctly your bike shouldn't run any hotter.
Everyone who worries about the bike getting hot while in traffic talks about installing an oil cooler, but what about a small electric fan or two mounted to blow air over the heads and cylinders? I think that the Buells use a fan. I was thinking about two small fans mounted to the down tubes of the frame. Anyone tried this?

The Buells use fans to draw air to cool the rear cylinder, since it's blocked by the front one (and therfore doesn't get as much airflow). Our bikes, being parallel twins, don't need that. Provided the bike is jetted correctly you should be fine, even in stop and go traffic in 100F+ heat.
