Title: Plans for future GS500
Post by: Dawn Light on September 05, 2006, 05:41:03 AM
Okay so this is my sad motorcycle:

Look at his sad face... He's sad because he's leaning there since july 20 when we crashed into a car

The suitcase represents my plans for him!

The front end and chassis have to go. That leaves me with the rear end and engine mainly.

I'm thinking of buying some parts here and there and building me a GS500 with custom paint and some tweaks.

The budget will be around 8,000 NIS = ~1835USD. Around here work is cheap and parts are expensive.

PM sent :thumb:

I should add:
make sure the steering stem isn't bent (the tube that is welded to the frame that connects the forks to the bike).

it don't look like there are any hard creases in the tubes

might want to remove them and take to a machine shop and see if they can be pressed straight????

is there any paint flaking arount the steering tube front top of frame?

you might be lucky and be able to fix most of it.

Is that an 89

Other countries got the clip ons for a lot longer than the US.  Damn US magazines complained too much about the lack of comfort.

It's totalled. Registered. The budget is what I'm hoping to get from the driver's insurance.

I think it means the number on the frame won't be permitted on the street.

In NYS all it means is that you have to pay $200 to have someone inspect it for safety and stolen parts before it can be registered.  After that, the only thing is the title will be forever branded "salvage."  I assume it's similar other places.  It's really no big thing.

Inspecting a frame for safety is requires knowledge and experience very few have in Israel. I think that once a vehicle is reported to the MOT as totalled, they don't allow the frame to get on the road. :cookoo:

Haha.... no, by safety I mean they check that you have headlights, taillights, turn signals and a horn.  They check that the brakes work and that no fluids are obviously leaking.  Then it's considered safe.  I think if you ride a bent frame, it's your own damn fault.
