Title: I'm looking to find a different mod for the GS
Post by: annguyen1981 on September 05, 2006, 06:54:59 PM
It may be different, may not be :dunno_white:

I love the tire stem LED things, but the damn batteries die too soon.  It makes sense to have a set that store solar power during the day and light up during the night.  There are some lawn ornaments that do that for your home.  Why not tire LED's?

You could actually make them do that yourself...  You will need all of the following:

Light sensor (to tell if it's day time or not) - 1
Relay (to turn the system on and off) - 1
Several Small Solar Panels (to collect sunlight) - Total length equal to the circumference of the wheel x 2
Small Capacitors (to hold a charge) - Depending on size, 1-20
Motion Switch (to activate the LED when the wheel is moving) - 1
LEDs (to light up) - Depending on desired brightness and pattern - 1-500

Glue the Several Small Solar Panels around the entire edge of the wheel, on both sides.  Wire the panels together (series or parallel? I dunno)...  Run the output of the solar panels to the Capacitors...  Glue the Capacitors evenly spaced around the wheel, as to not throw off the balance.  Glue the relay to the wheel...  Then run the capacitor output into the relay power input...  Glue the Light Sensor to the wheel.  Connect it to the relay to enable/disable the power throughput when it is dark/light out...  Glue the motion switch to the wheel...  Run the power output of the relay to the motion switch...   Then take the output of the motion switch to the LEDs.

Then cover the whole assembly in epoxy to protect from water infiltration.

And just like that... BAM!  Solar powered Wheel LED system!  No problem!

Or you could just stop being a  dork and replace the friggen battery.

I have no need to set records or top any lists, that's why I'm the PostWhore Extraordinaire.
