Title: 04' Rejet
Post by: Whatever6060 on September 06, 2006, 12:03:58 PM
I've been reading up on rejetting and am contemplating the sizes to use.

I know there have been many threads on jetting but have one questions.

I am looking for a stage three rejet and found the following scheme in the 2001+ rejet thread in the FAQ section:

Pilot # 20
Small Main #67.5
Large Main # 147.5

I read a post that Roadstergal made saying that the 04 was different.  Would the sizes above work on my 04'?

Also what is the part number for th #20 pilot.  Have toruble finding it on the Sudco website.

Thanks in advance!!!

What mods will you be doing for this rejet?  This is KEY.  Stage 3 really means nothing in terms of jet sizing, regardless I'll assume you're doing a lunchbox and some kinda of exhaust mod.

First, '01-'02 carbs come with 130 mains, while '04+ come with 127.5 mains, so I believe they are different and '04+'s should run leaner jetting than '01-'02's because of this.

20 pilot will work fine, but you may be better off with a 22.5.  As for the part number, I'm not sure, but it's floating around here in several threads.

I'd think 67.5 mid mains would be to rich even if you're going lunchbox and full exhaust.  You'd probably be better off with 65s

I also think 147.5 would be too much for the mains.  Maybe 145's would be better.

Stage 3 means you're going to remove your airbox and replace it with a lunchbox or pod filter.

If you're doing that, you should be fine with 142.5 or 145. And the jet is a small round main, not a large round main.

Mid mains should be 65 to 67.5 probably.

Pilots should be 22.5, air fuel screw 3 turns out or so.

The '04 had an increased main jet compared to the '01, from 127.5 to 130.

(dang, Lima beat me to it).

Yes I plan to do the jet inconjuction with a lunchbox and wileyco.

Using:
145 small round main
65 mid-main
22.5

Would I need to shim the needle?  I'm not really sure how that works but have seen it in many of the threads.

Also, do you think i can get the jets from a suzuki dealer?

You don't have to shim the needle.  Shimming the needle was the only way to tune the mid range on the pre-'01 carbs, but now that is what the mid-mains are for.

You should be able to order them from the dealer, but make sure you have the part numbers because the parts guy usually doesn't know squat about jets for a GS500.  Tell him you need to order Mikuni jets.  Otherwise, you can order them from Sudco (http://www.sudco.com) as many here have done.

yea i tryed to shim my needles with 2 washers, its a pain in the ass. because of the the rubber vacum thing under the cover. it was a temp fix to try to get more fuel till my jets come in. all it did was make a flat spot 4k up but when i let off the gas it would speed up, it was still lean. persoanly i want mine rich as crap, well not to rich so i am going with

145-146.5(if made) main
65.5 mid
and 22.5 pilot

146.5 doesn't exist.
65.5 doesn't exist.

Pods and lunchbox are going to be about the same, really. It's an airbox removal filter. Go with whichever one you want.

Don't run it too rich, don't run it too lean. Just jet it correctly.

Why? Swapping jets takes like, 5 minutes.

And with the slip on, you might have to go up to 147.5, but I doubt it will be that big of a concern.

How did you get RaceTech gold valves for $100/set? And springs for $60?

And why didn't you just install them yourself and save that $90 for more gear?

With Sudco's decision to sell jets as a minimum of four, I'm considerring buying them and offering the other 2 for sale to the poor people of Australia who get ripped off down here for parts.

I just got quoted AUS $60 ($45 US) for two 145 main jets!

ok, i messed up on the order.

the screen fits
the main fit
the mid fit

but i got the wrong pilots, so that being said can i run the stockers till the right ones come in or should i wait?

i still need the pod filters, and a filter for the oil breather and mabe a fuel filter.

the carb bowls are clean, the floats are red/brown (normal i guess for 20k miles)

springs and gold vavles should be in friday and on the bike on sat.

more updates latter

thats out right insane. the dealer price is less than 1$. that is bull shaZam!.

go to cycle gear.com and order them, it will be about 2.99 for a set of each so less than 10$ total from parts unlimited.  i got mine from wps (weasten power sports).
