Well well well, it appears that I might be getting a really nice and decent job at Reno, and I was wondering about the road conditions, since I have heard that it snows quite a lot.
On the way there 2 days ago, I noticed the slow lane on HW80 was very rough, and I assume is due the constant use of tire chains on vehicles. I saw some harley bikers on a rest stop and I asked them how bad the road was, and they replied by saying that it was bad enough to make em ride on the fast line most of the time.
ANYWAY... if I do get the job, I will probably sell my motorcyle for good (2005 gsf, no drops), since it's a bit of a corporate position (very formal and nice pants, tie, pretty shoes, blazer and great haircut) I will probably have to give up riding to work at all, and that combined with the 8+ months of snow a year (or so I heard) make riding something I will hate to leave aside. :icon_confused:
I will probably end up buying an old (90s) gs for the track (if there is any around Reno), but I will see.
Lol, I live in Carson City (about 20 minutes south), I have no idea what orfice someone pulled that 8 months of snow a year garbage out of. In reality Dec-Feb are really the only rough months. I have a friend who rides to work here year round, there were like 5-10 days last year where he couldn't ride his FZ1 due to weather.
Keep the GS. Head south on highway 395 for some of the best roads you'll take anywhere. Head up kingsbury grade to lake tahoe, go over monitor pass, head down to sonora. Go around lake tahoe, head to Markleville. There are a ton of awesome roads with great scenery all within a 60 mile radius of Reno.
As for the riding to work part, I probably wouldn't risk it in Reno traffic anyway....drivers are too much like California drivers there :cookoo:

Thanks for the input 8) The thing I MUST do (if I get hired) is buy a small 4 wheel vehicle, since I must dress-to-impress about 4 days of every week :icon_rolleyes: so riding to work is not an option :icon_confused:

Don't sell it! :o It snows in the winter pretty bad sometimes, but in the summer EVERY SINGLE DAY is perfect motorcycle weather. :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:
Highway 80 sucks, but it's not chains on cars, it's chains on TRUCKS that does it. You won't find any other roads near reno HALF that bad.
On a better note there are two INCREDIBLE sets of twisties within 15 minutes ride. (We're talking about making highway 1 look boring. They hold races on some of them!!!!!!) Another back road that's pretty awesome (more awesome than other people's "twisties") that NO ONE USES and NO ONE knows about. Hell the last 3 miles to my college are twisties! (That makes 4!)
Then there's the road through silver city! 5mph corners! Breathtaking elevation changes, a view that on a clear day exceeds 100 miles. (Yes they actually measured it somehow)
I know of 3 overlooks that allow you to see the whole Valley! And one of them is ALWAYS abandoned!
Do you ski? 20 minutes from like 4 resorts and less than an hour from like 12. 35 - 45 Minutes to lake Tahoe (up one of the BEST sets of twisties EVER) and then you can lap the lake! (Which has COUNTLESS twisties, overlooks and beaches.)
Oh wait, the windy hill back route is pretty twisty, and hecka fun. Good way around traffic too. Lots of elevation changes.
Also there's the whole west side of the McCarran ring. That's about 12.5 miles worth of great road that actually takes you to USEFUL places.
4th street industrial sector, not twisty, but straight four lane road. Rarely patrolled, no real sidestreets. Straight line boasts are proved here (among a few other places.)
Of course you can ride up to Portola or Susanville. Both beautiful little towns.
There's Pyramid lake. One of the great stretches of that evil dangerous 2-lane highway. (That seperates idiots from real drivers and riders.)
Riding to work? In Reno? You just have to know where the idiots congregate and not go there. Easy.

Holy carp! just as I am starting to think about my possible new life in Nevada, I get an email from the founder of an international company I always wanted to work for (video related), and tells me he's interested in me to work for his company :oops:
So now I have another interview on monday and the company just so happens to be in the same city I live in :icon_confused:
I can see it coming... the Co. in Reno saying "yeah we wanna hire you" and this other company saying "well, come work for us" :dunno_white: dang it, I want to work in both :mad:
or maybe they both say 'sorry, no' :laugh:
