Title: Trackaholic
Post by: sys49152 on September 07, 2006, 06:38:27 PM
So I recorded a few sessions from my third track day.   Man, am I ever hooked.  Anyhow, the link below is from my third session at Mosport International Raceway - the Long Track.  The track is like riding a roller coaster.. blind turn, two off-camber fast left handers, followed by a hairpin, followed by the long straight where 6th gear redline on a 600 is pretty common.  It took me the first two sessions to figure out what I should be doing.  The third session was cancelled because of an accident on the track.  We broke for lunch, and I recorded the next session.

FYI, I was originally scheduled to do the same track a couple of days before this video was shot, with another track day organizer (street/novice session).  Unfortunately due to a death on the track (heart attack while riding the track, probably not crash related) the entire day was cancelled after the second session.  I rebooked, repaid and tried again a few days later.  The new track organizer didn't offer a novice/street session, so basically passing was allowed *anywhere*... and I mean *anywhere*.  Inside turns, outside turns, straights, whatever.  It was a bit hairy until I got use to it.  Passing is fun  :icon_lol:

NOTE : The video is only interesting around the 2, 4 and 10 minute mark, where there's a bit of passing and chasing.  The rest of it is pretty damn boring.  Oh yeah, and google's transcoding software sucks.  For some reason, standard xvid video with mp3 audio is transcoded out of sync.  You'll notice the engine rev up quickly but the sound follows a few seconds after.

I've got my last track day schedule this Saturday.  After that, I'll probably go into withdrawl until next year April or May.

Yup.  The big "X"  on the back of the suit usually means "I'm slow, please pass me as soon as you can..".

That being said, hitting the turn-in point after cresting the hill (on two of the turns) is damn intimidating for us newer trackies.  If there was a mic in my helmet, you'd regularily hear stuff like "Jesus, my freaking oh my damn that was check the pants, check the pants..."

Um.. I'm not sure to be honest.  I think it was an inline four, an older kawi I think.  There were a couple of duc's but I don't think they were close enough at least at that point for you to hear them on the vid.  I can't even remember if they were on the track with me for the session.

[EDIT]  Actually there was an older interceptor up front.  Maybe that's what you heard [/EDIT]

Looked like the inside line of T1 was bumpy-watch your line through there next time. Also looked like you could have carried more speed through the first right after the mega fast straight ( 8)) then bit down hard on the brakes some more in the short straight between that and the next left...bet you had a f.cking blast...

bodywork/grab bar looked like an sv650 (pipe sounded like it too) gridded directly in front. probably the older kawi was gridded to Pankaj's forward right
