Title: First day with the twisties
Post by: Nomad on September 09, 2006, 05:14:06 PM
Hey all,
I've had the GS a couple months now.  Lurk the site alot...tons of great info...thanks to all you regulars.

So I live in upstate SC - Gods country.  I have been riding mostly rural farm type roads.  Fun, not alot of traffic but not many nice tight turns.  But today was different.  I got out early and headed north to the mountains...upstate SC and western NC have got to be among the best places to have a bike.  Clean crisp air, lush green trees and nice curvy mountain roads.  To be honest I felt pretty confident about my first run in with true twisties.  I had taken my time to focus on basics and being smooth.  I hit the road to Jones Gap and Ceasar's Head and my smile was 9-miles wide.   :icon_mrgreen:   I wasn't flying, I was in control and I was smooth and I suprisingly fast.  Friends I am in love.

Its a sickness.  Yesterday I found myself with an hour to spare between classes and I headed outside of town and hit some amazing twisties.  Its addicting!  Take it slow, keep it under control, and just remember you're not on the track and you'll be golden!

Turd, you're in that small special part of Kansas that has both hills and curves in the roads.  Wichita is not so blessed; I may have to take "the long way home" on the bike some time to see my parents, which could bring me right through your general area.

yeah i rode afew tight turns tonight and i belive the twisties are waaaay more fun than pure speed. I got bored real fast gunning it from 0-60mph the last few days. Today i got to ride some nice open tight turns with a moderate amount of speed and boy is that fun.

People make fun of Kansas for being flat...?  I'm from Chicago and this place is like living in the damn mountains!  Illinois is SCARY flat.

God bless the Flint Hills.  I love this area.

I've been fortunate enough to ride in many different parts of the US, and I LOVE the tight, technical stuff, especially on a small(er) motorcycle. My old Ninja 250 was a blast in the corners, but not really well suited to riding two-up (what can I say? my girlfriend is just as addicted to cornering when hanging on to me), so I gave it to a friend, and bought my GS. My Honda 500 Interceptor was also a lot of fun leaned way over; my idiot brother wrecked it while I was out of the country. Come to think of it, I've only owned two motorcycles that really weren't well-suited for tight corners, and I used those for long, leisurely trips, with luggage, not for corner-carving. Both were big Suzuki fours, with shaft-drive...
