Title: So with 9/11 coming up tomorrow...
Post by: annguyen1981 on September 09, 2006, 10:41:06 PM
I was wondering if anyone here was directly affected?

I lost a friend who was a firefighter (Robert Lane), my husband lost a close friend who was also a firefighter (Christopher Mozzillo) and his friends brother who worked at the WTC.  A tough day for the both of us.

I'm so sorry to hear that.

Did you know their families too?

I lost one of my good friends in Iraq. Not directly related to 9/11 but the poor guy was stuck at the airport for 3 days on his way to basic.

While I personally did not lose anyone, being in the suburbs of NYC, I know several people who lost someone close.  Everytime I go by the city and see the towers that have been there my entire life missing from the skyline it's just unnerving.

I think a lot of people don't realize this whole terrorism thing isn't new.  It all started back in 1979, and continued to grow to it's boiling point on 9/11.  Acts of terrorism against our country grew more and more frequent during the 1990s, but no one cared and no one did anything about it.  If the first world trade center bombing was taken seriously, we could have captured or killed Bin Laden years ago, we could have stopped a lot of this before it got to this point.  But the fact of the matter it wasn't, and we have since paid that price.  Frankly, I still don't think it's taken seriously, everyone is busy blaming the government for everything, making fun of the president because he sounds like a moron when he talks, and just not opening their eyes to what's really going on.  The purpose of terrorism is to make people turn against their government and make the government unstable thus allowing the weaker military force to win.  This is how we lost Vietnam, and this is how we're going to lose the war on terror.  What makes me far more sad than the deaths of Americans, is the death of the American desire to be the best and to succeed at everything we do.

Actually Terrorism isnt about the number you kill. If it was we would see a dirty nuke. Its about causing a people to distrust there government. And making them not feel safe. And in the case of the towers it was meant to also mess with the world money flow. Since a large amount of it went through the towers.

It accomplished it's goals more then any of the Al Queda leaders could have suspected. We have been willingly giving up freedoms in the name of safety. We have seen our government change from one devoted (well kinda.. but work with me) to freedom. To one more willing to distrust its own citizens to protect itself.

I didn't lose anyone in New York myself. But 3,000 people lost their lives. And I feel their memories have been abused and used for the wrong means. Every company blamed their corporate losses on "9/11". More then just the president has used it in a speech to get what they want.

We shouldn't forget the fear of what they felt. Those stuck on the top floors trying to call out. Those who jumped to their deaths because they saw no other option. There memories should have served as a reason towards the goal of stopping terrorism. Not a war in Iraq.

And to watch the conspiracy nuts say that a plane didn't hit the Pentagon hurts this as well. But as Americans we are free to think and express our beliefs no matter what they may be. And this is one of our cornerstones of freedom. Even if you just want to Buddha Loves You slap them and tell them to wake up.

3,000 dead in the towers. 2500+ dead in Iraq as a result of the World Trade Center attacks. Who knows how many civilians in Afganistan and Iraq as a result.

5 years and no Bin Laden

No, I'm serious!  Your first post in this thread was freakin spot on.  I'm not joking!

Its my birthday tomorrow...?  Does that count?  (Just kidding with the selfish comment).

I've actually had people tell me, "Oh man, your birthday is Sept. 11th?  How bad did that suck?" which usually leaves me dumbfounded.  "Yeah dude, people dying and shaZam!...I was so pissed that they ruined MY SPECIAL DAY!".

this really wasn't a political question or anything abt the government as f%&ked-up as everything has ... its abt an abundant lost of lives, peoples families disappeared in a blink of an eye and hearts broken around the country whether it be war, terrorism, etc.  And the saddest part is, it will never end...

never said I was scared...it just rips me in pieces if one second im at work...the next second, my family is gone.  Remember the big earthquake in SF happened during rush hour and Hwy 17 collapsed where southbound traffic was on the top level and northbound on the bottom...everybody in the northbound were squashed?  Well, it wasn't terrorism or anything like that but both my sister and mother would hv been in that northbound traffic.  I can't tell you how I was feeling?  psycho, scared as hell, hysterical...my bf at the time was going to take me to the hospital to hv me sedated...my father, who was overseas, happened to called me and let me know that they were ok.  My mom finished early and went out with her co-workers.   My sister was stuck at work.  I still passed out and went to the hospital.  It's that feeling I had that frightens me.  I don't think I could ever handle that.

That's why I haven't posted anything else on this thread.  It's been turned the wrong way.

Thank you for sharing, Jackie.

This is useless...delete this thread.[/color]

Tad, as I totally respect your views and agree with you 100%[/u], this really wasn't the opp to bash this thread or to read your abrasive comments.  It was a simple statement, with people's simple views.  It was a small window for people to share their loved ones.  Haven't you heard of empathy?  As there is a time to remember those who died, there is also a time to bad-mouth the government, the CIA, the FBI, Homeland Security, etc.  This just wasn't the time for the bad-mouth part.

I was on a business trip in West Virginia, stuck in a hotel room and glued to the tv 1000 miles from home.  Ended up being stranded for a while when air traffic was closed.  I have never wanted to be home so bad in my life just to give my wife a hug... I can't imagine what people that lost loved ones felt and are feeling today...  Just seeing some of the images this morning made my heart sink.  God bless America, the greatest country in all the world :thumb:

While I was riding to work this morning, a service man was on one of the overpasses over the freeway waving a huge American flag. I gave him a big wave. He waved back and continued waving the flag.

My thoughts are certainly with all of those who lost a loved one five years ago, and in years since.

Bless every one of those wonderful people who protect and serve our country. And bless all those first responders. I hope that they receive some relief from the health problems brought on by their heroic actions five years ago.  :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3:

I'll be angry at the low-lifes who perpetrated this evil the other 364 days out of the year. For one day, I'll turn my complete thoughts and good wishes to those who are hurting and who are again saddened by their terrible losses. And I'll give my thoughts and good wishes to the heroes of five years ago and the 3000+ angels we as a nation lost.  :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3:

yes, I agree but at least you and probably some others could understand, and that's all that matters.
