I've read a bunch of "camshaft endplay" posts lately but none of them describe the tickticketytackticktick noise occurring while decelerating --engine braking. It sounds like a rock caught and rattling somewhere in the fairing, or a loose chain of some sort, although the cam chain probably would make a much higher-frequency sound. It's between 2 and 3 occurrences per second, for a total occurrence usually of 3-5 seconds, then stops when engine deceleration passes a certain rpm.
It doesn't happen at idle or in first gear, but at second or third gear (maybe fourth too, but I can't hear it), while decelerating to a stop, and only while the clutch is engaged. Seems to have increased lately.
I am going to have a look at the camshafts soon, just thought my particular problem didn't quite compare to others', and wondering if anyone had any thoughts.
Check your drive chain, it's probally loose. Mine did the exact same thing, while decelerating, it made the tick clack tink tink sound ocasionally, and then more often, then whenever I slowed down. My drive chain was loose and was hitting the top of the swingarm.

Imagine there was a person who knew nothing about how to work on his gs500. A totally clueless noob. How would you describe to this person the best chain-tightening method, and to what specifications?
