Well sort of.
I spent the weekend at the state muzzle loading titles winning my first medal. I got a third place in the traditional 100 metre bench rest shoot. I was 2 points behind 1st place & .1 behind second place. All three places in this shoot were taken by members from my club. I'm really happy with this result as I've been shooting crap all year at regular club shoots & also I have won a medal at state level & was very close to picking a couple of more medals. :2guns:
The weekends results proved to me that I'm capable of winning a state title & I'm not that far from doing that.
One other good thing of the weekend was shooting to 200 metres with a round ball rifle for the first time & getting a bull.
The worst thing was over 4 inches of rain that fell over the weekend & having to live in a tent for the weekend. :thumb:

Congradualtions!
We use a patched round ball. The material patch takes up the rifling giving the ball the spin. Also the rifles are replicas of the original rifles, but are manufactured by modern techniques. The molds for the balls are accurate as well.
In open class shooting they use a projectile therefore getting better accuracy.
Part of the reason for the old muskets being inaccurate would be the use of under size balls, this allowed the shooter to drop the ball down the barrell, allowing for quicker reloading & therefore greater rates of fire.

hey let me ask you something Bubba,
What kinda bullets are used, is it ball or something more cylinderical. I've heard (mainly through doumentaries on the civil war) that muscket balls are terribly inaccurate after like 30 yards.... is that true, or do you guys use more of a bullet type ammunition.
LMAO and your calling Bubba a nerd?
Oh and congrats! :thumb:
