I would appreciate as much help as possible here, being a "new" petrol head and all!
My bike was laid up for around 18 months.........so I have just :
1. cleaned out the carbs
2. put in a new battery
3. Done an oil and oil filter change.
Now what happens is :
1. Starts and runs when the fuel tap is turned to PRIME, choke on. I have a flat spot between 2 and 3.5 ooo revs so I have to keep the revs high.
2. When I put the TAP to Fuel ( where it should be the flat spot appears whenever it feels like it and I can sometimes be turning the throttel but getting absolutly no revs at all, then suddenly the revs kick in......!
Whats going on....

Is it fresh gas? How was the fuel tank and carbs prepared for storage? How did you clean the carbs?
Sounds like crap in the carbs still...
Well he said crap in the carbs and no need to repeat that...Air filter crammed with crud is another possibility. However 2-3.5K flat spot may be a feature. Lean jetting and cams to make it run up high are the cause of it. Try 40 pilot jets and if the problem gets better well and good. It is still under powered in the lower revs even if you take care of carburetion.

Your problem sounds carburetor related. I am a firm beleiver that the #1 cause of carburetor disfunction is folks cleaning and/or repairing their own carbs. I mean no disrespect in this but perhaps you should double check the reassembly of your carbs after cleaning. If you have a factory or Clymer maintenance manual go through the carbs step by step and double check that all parts are in the correct location in the correct order.
Hopefully you did not use a drill bit or steel wire to clean your carb jets. Even a slight enlargement of the jets will cause carb problems.
Good luck finding the problems where ever they lie.
I'm with srinath on this one. I've found that both mine have a flat spot in thet 3000 rpm range :roll: but it becomes less noticable after riding for about 30 minutes.
Better when hot means lean...You may be able to jet it out of that spot...1 size larger pilots...40 pilots non bleed style will do it..
