Woke up early and did an oil change, it went well, the oil was pretty dark, who knows how long it's been since last change.
I also lubed the chain. My drain bolt was 17mm, and the filter cover 11mm, weird.
Just wanted to share my excitement :)

Yeah i started a similar thread on my first oil change not even a week ago. I had 21mm drain bolt and 10mm oil filter bolt or was it 11mm, cant remember for sure.
At least you did not break a filter cover stud. :thumb:
Bikes always shift better after an oil change.
Did my first oil change over the weekend (600 mile) and boy am I glad I did. The oil didn't look good, It didn't smell good. The job went good though. No problems, and I covered the pipes with tin foil to keep them clean. The oil was like a greenish yellowish grey color and smelled more like gear oil. Anyway oil and filter done and bike is running great.
I went very gently on the filter cover bolts.
Regards
Graham

That's a good idea. I figured I'd always splash the pipes and have to live with some oil burning off after every oil change... maybe not
Now its just a matter of remembering this next time i change my oil

If the oil is greenish yellowish grey and smells bad, you may have water in there. It''s best to go for long rides every so often to get the oil all the way up to temp for a while to allow all the water to evaporate. The smell could be clutch material too if you've been hard on it. I'd recomend doing the next change at about 1000mi or so before going to the regular scedule.
I'm sure everything will get more normal as it breaks in.
have fun
That water thing may be a possibility. I bought the bike from the dealer with 200 miles on it. It's an 06 that someone bought and traded. The last 400 miles were put on by me on gentle longer rides 15 - 30 miles. I know the dealer had in moving aroung their showroom for at least 2 months, and everytime they move it they start them for all of 30 seconds.
Thanks
