Title: Seat to body work clearance on 01+
Post by: dgyver on September 17, 2006, 05:34:11 PM
For those that have 01+ bikes.....How much clearance do you have between the seat and bodywork?

I moddified my '97 with the brackets from a '05 and ended up with about 3/16" clearance. Curious how accurate I am. I had to do a little tweaking to a couple of the brackets but overall it fit very well.

I think my bike is fubar if your clearance is 3/16ths....

Mine's like 1/2 or so. FUBAR!

An older bike with a newer tail is a tighter fitting and much better looking mod. BTW tail light also fits in tighter making it look nicer ... a lot nicer. like WTF ... suzuki made new tail light and ner tail section but didn't get those 2 to go on flush wth each other ... Anyway a hand fitted tail is much nicer than stock 04.
Cool.

I ended up cutting the mounts off and welding them on, as much as I said I did not want to. Took about 4 hours. At the end it is a much cleaner job.

Yeah, when mounted in stock form the tale light looks like some kind of protuding anal boil. Since I do not have the 01+ bungie rails to mount the light, I may make a bracket or moddify 89-00 rails to use just the bracket (the rails are not going to mounted either way) and bring the light in, flush to the bodywork.

My seat clearance was FUBAR when I hit that pothole.  I had to hammer the seat support down to close the gap.  I'm guess my clearance is around 1/4"
