Title: new bike - old mistake - amusing..
Post by: gmingst on September 19, 2006, 09:13:24 AM
Stopped at the store on the way home today.  Parked bike, went in bought stuff, went back out to bike.  Distracted by cute girl. Put jacket on, put gloves - helmet on. Start bike (still distracted) Back bike out of spot.  Put it in gear...  It dies.  Hmmm  well when it is cold I really clunks into gear the first time so I figure maybe it was really hot and that might have a leaning effect so put it in neutral restart no problem and I try again.  It dies. HMMM Let's try second.  Restart - try second it dies.  So now I am sitting there on the new bike that I can't get moving.  AND to make it worse someone in a car now decides they want my spot.  I motion something with my hand like the universal signal for I'm stuck, and they get the message and drive on.  So I am looking around for anything and take a look at the petcock.  Well as I am glancing down what do I see????

The

Kick

Stand

is down...

All at once everything makes sense.  Distractions = leaving kickstand down = ignition cutout when putting it in gear.

I put up the kickstand and drive away enlightened.

Regards
Graham

I did the exact same thing on my first bike (kawasaki KZ400) except that it didn't have the kickstand safety cutout, so I'm still all distracted and looking at this girl while trying to look cool. Then I make a left turn and AHHHH  :o  I scream/grunt as my bike jumps up and to the right as the kickstand hits the ground and folds itself up. I do the almost crash swerve/weave as I try and regain my composure and ballance. All cool factor was gone but at least I didn't dump it in front of her

Anyways, I'm a big fan of that safety cutout, much safer and less embarasing to repetedly stall the bike like a moron, than to crash it like a dumbass  :thumb:

keep your cool guys  O0
