Title: Converting frame fuel valve to ON-OFF-Reserve ?
Post by: dgyver on September 19, 2006, 11:52:11 AM
Has anyone done this? I thought someone has before but could not find the thread.

I am wanting to eliminate the vacuum part of the frame fuel valve. It would operate like it was in Prime all the time but be able to manually shut the valve OFF when not in use. The Reserve would function as normal. I have not looked at it in too much detail but does seem possible.

That petcock actually uses a tang that is pushed in to open the diaphragm by a lip on the delrin valve. The delrin valve can be re fabbed so the lip is there in 2 locations and not the location where it is. So on and res will be on and res, and prime will be shut. You can simply put the handle back in 180 degrees out ... but remmeber the thing is trapezoidal where it fits into the delrin thing ... so you'd have to grind the delrin a bit for the fit, and that will give you a reserve that is prime, and the other 2 are closed if you get rid of vacuum.
Cool.
Srinath.

i did it according to the instructions in this thread. (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=19363.0) and it seemed to work for me. However, make sure your float heights are set properly...or you remember to turn it off when not riding. i lost a good bit of gas through my airbox recently...

Dgyver, I retrofit an on/off/res petcock from a Honda CR450X dirtbike.  It works great and cost less than $20.
