Title: Short exhaust
Post by: vwwebb on September 23, 2006, 10:36:26 AM
Is there any way to run a short exhaust, one that just tucks under the bike. If so what are some adv, and diss adv to doing this.

Well the GSXR's have these 2 little funnel like cans that they put on. I dont see why you cant slap on on each header and let it just stay clamped on. Misfring might burn your back tire ... OK so point it outward ...
Cool.

I've been thinking about trying a single or dual setup but haven't really gotten around to doing much research on them

I think that would sound extremely weird, the sound going from one side to the other like
left: pop!
right: Pop!
left: pop!
right Pop!
left: pop!
right: Pop!
left: pop!
right Pop!
left: pop!
right: Pop!
And so on and so forth, really really loud in stereo.

no... I just think that people should use common sense... and do alittle of the leg work themselves.... he said that no one told him what words to use... I showed him that they had.

Sure, I ask for help, and advice, but I deffinetly have done the research myself.

dont mind that bone head above ^^^^ you can put damn near any exaust you want on your bike if you take it to a shop and have them fit it for it ... you need to look at clearnce . if you do alot of twiste riding this may not be a good idea. you need to see how far out your factory can sticks out and how far it would stick out if you just tryed to bolt it on .

Just get whatever pipes you want and weld them on. You can end the pipes in front of the engine, under the engine, 4 feet behind the bike, single, dual whatever. performance probally wont change too much as long as you aren't too stupid about it

Get creative, have fun.
Title: Hypothetically speaking
Post by: vwwebb on September 24, 2006, 08:32:41 AM
Is there anyway to take the original exhaust, grind of the pipe about 3 inches after the merge of the two pipes, and weld my own shorty exhaust made of a wider pipe that i also cut to make look nice, after i deal with clearence problems. So esentially i would be working with just a straight pipe no muff. Any problems with doing this, such as no back pressure, and other that a muff, how could i over come this.

I don't know, I'm not an engineer.  Suzuki made the exhaust the way it is specifically for a reason.

I can think of 4 main reasons the stock exhaust is like it is.  In no real order, they are;
1. Cost
2. Packaging
3. Tractability (read: torque)
4. Cost

The diameter of the header affects power.  As does the length, and the location of the muffler.  It also affect backpressure, which affects flow through the head during valve overlap.

None of the exhausts on any of the searches are what I am talking about.

My TL has true-duals and I love it.  You have to think, though, that left/right/left/right thing isn't very pronounced anywhere above idle.

I ran my bike without a muffler for a little while before I had my polished can welded on. It sounds like crap and everyone will hate you. I didn't notice a change in power, didn't hurt low end and didn't help top end when compared to large glass-pack style can.

Everyone will hate you, including yourself if you go straight pipes or megaphone. It sounds much better and won't hurt your power to have some type of muffler on there. Whatever you can weld on, will work, just find something cool.

You could try the cheap nasty way just buy a chrome car exhaust tip cut off your muffler and weld on the tip to the pipe. I have seen this on a BMW1150R and an R1 both looked good sounded good (not to loud suprisingly) but both were fuel injected (not to sure about the R1) so no jetting was required but you may have to on the GS. Lets face it if the muffler has to come off then you have to rejet except for staintune mufflers hope that helps.

(oh BTW vwwebb the following is not directed at you)

Also this is why it is good to ask the same questions that have been asked before because not everybody with answers have replied to previous posts or new ideas may come through in a new post. If it had not been for a recent post on exhaust systems I would not have my Jardine system and still would be looking at 3 year old posts about V&H systems and Yoshi systems that can't be purchased anymore and what help is that? None.

Also is it really that big a deal when someone asks the same questions as before :dunno_white: :thumb:

This has been covered before. Search, n00b. (Not even being sarcastic.. we've discussed this.)

Lets remember that the GSXR pictured DOES have a muffler.  It is the box peice that is just before that megaphone.  The muffler is underneith those bikes.

Your bike will be a huge pain in the butt due to its outrageous volume.  Get a good aftermarket muffler and keep the peace!

That is the closest I could find. I have seen it in person for a GSXR. Its small ... super small.
Cool.
