Title: Jardine exhaust. (updated pics)
Post by: Jake D on September 25, 2006, 08:15:14 AM
I got back in town yesterday and called Destro.  He came over and helped me install the new Jardine exhaust on my Super Hawk.

It took maybe an hour.  Only ran into a couple snags.  Nothing some grease and a snapped bolt can fix.

We then hit some twisties.

The bike sounds crazy.  I think it is loud as hell, but I'm just not used to it yet.  But is sounds amazing.  Also the bike is significantly lighter and there may be some more power there.

I'll put up better pics tomorrow.  Here is one off my phone.

Awesome!  I'd love to hear it.  Nothing sounds cooler than a large bore V-Twin sportbike.  Mine makes little girls cry (not joking...I felt really bad).

Get those pictures up ASAP!  I freakin love your bike.

The first time I fired it up, we were still in the parking garage.  I am sure my eyes looked like  :o.

There really isn't a great way to describe it.  I've heard low rumble used to describe the GS/Wileyco combination, so that wouldn't really describe how this sounds.  It sounds like a smooth running Harley at idle but really wails like no Harley I've ever heard.  Espectially at like 10,000 rpm.

Awesome, I know what you mean.

My Monster has one of the deepest grumbles I've ever heard.  Its not Harley-ish (thank God) but sounds more to me like a late 60's muscle car with a big block at idle.

When are we going to get out and ride?  I want to check out your new bike.  There is only a short season left.  We need to make the most of it.

On a side note, there is a guy that parks by me with a brand new GSXR 600.  I showed it to Destro for the first time yesterday.

He said, "You should take it for a ride!  The key is still in the seat lock!"

Sure enough, they guy had left the key in it.  I couldn't reach his cell phone, so I just left it there.
Hope he finds it!

So, hey, Kansas people. I'm thinking about coming and harassing Turd for a while over Spring Break, mid March area. Jake D, Destro, y'all up for a ride? Turd, don't you dare do anything during that week because I'll totaly need a place to crash.

It all depends on my job.  What week is your spring break?  My work is usually starting to get crazy around that time of year, so let me know which week we're talking about here.

Hey Jake D, didn't you say the guy with the Gixxer is a new rider?  He sounds...brain dead.  I would have hopped on the bike and given it a go!  Where in KC do you and Destro live?

I'm down for sure even thought Destro and I live in Missouri!    ;)

I have been going snowboarding in March for the last few years, but there is a decent chance I'll be around.  I am not sure how good the riding will be at that time.  Usually by April we have Spring Time up and running.  We run our winters a bit long these days.   There may be some pretty nasty sand on the roads still, and cold weather.

Howsabout, March 10-18? Sometime in there?

I basically live in the River Market, but on the downtown side of the loop.  They call it the Garment District.
Shayne lives north of the river, but not far, in North Kansas City.

Those dates look fine to me.  We'll have to get pretty lucky with a combination of good weather, clean roads, and now snowboarding.

I just might. Assuming turd has a sofa I can crash on. And by sofa, I mean floor or any other flat surface. And by crash, I mean sleep. No more crashing from me.

The Turdster has plenty of room for all!  Actually, I live in one of the tiniest damn Euro-style apartments I could find.  I've got friends all over this town with room for people to stay, so COME TO MANHATTAN, KANSAS!  Where the cowboy boots are a-plenty and the people are biggoted as hell!

My spring break is the same as yours, 19th-23rd.  Alpha...I'll be STUPID ASS busy during your spring break if it is the week before mine.  You can come if you don't mind hanging out for a half hour every night.

Sorry bro!

Updated pics on the first page!  This is a dual exhaust system.  It looks the same as the other side.

Shayne and I guess that it dropped twenty pounds over stock.  The stock system was heavy, these relatively light.  Plus I ditched the passenger pegs and mounts in favor of these chrome CNCed hangers.

One thing I noticed, other than the sound, is the bike is more nimble.  The Hawk is already pretty light.  Lighter than a RC-51 anyway.  But we were riding on Sunday and there was a big groove in the road from some construction.  I raised up off the seat and goosed the throttle to go over it smoothly.  It felt like the front wheel came up even though I was propably in third.  It hasn't done that before.   It felt like riding a big dirt bike.

Heck yeah, 97gs500.  We can go riding whenever.

Also, there is a guy in Europe called Mario.  He builds custom one-off parts for the VTR Super Hawk, called the Firestorm over in Europe.

Here is a link to his website, and his fully carbon fiber dual undertail exhaust VTR Firestorm.

All of the parts are available, if I want to order them.  Srinath, eat your heart out.

I might have to try and get in on this but lord only knows what I'll be up to in March.

And I think it's about time I ordered a pair of riding pants, these morning rides into work are getting chilly.  Oh, and decent gloves to boot...

Maybe we should all meet in  Cassoday (http://cycleconnections.com/articledetail.asp?TypeID=3&ID=164).  It is a pretty central meeting area.  Thoughts?

My thoughts? WTF is Cassoday?

Remember Shayne: we didn't all grow up in Tombstone or whatever.  Okay?  Coral your thoughts and fire back at me, big shooter.

Click the grey word to read a nice story.  Sorry tried to write that sentences in monosyllabic words for your pea brain to be able to read.   :flipoff:

And it was Fowler (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&cat=&address=&city=fowler&state=ks&zipcode=).  See another clickable link.

I've heard the Cassoday run gets XBox huge, tons of bikes there.  I've never been myself... hell, we could do that the next time it happens and not wait for March, if there's interest.

Well, Wyatt, I stand corrected.

Sounds fine to me.   Cassoday it is!

Yeah, a few of my friends go down there every month.  Some of the people around here who have been going for years aren't big fans of it anymore.  There is a local Harley shop that blasts music and has a dyno and makes the whole thing rediculous and commercial.  They try and steal all of the attention, and I guess it makes some upset.  The bikes are about 80% Harley's and 20% others.

Screw it.  20% is enough.

I let my girlfriend listen to the next exhaust last night before we grilled out.

She was mighty impressed.

Yeah, I was kind of afraid it would be a bunch of "weekend warrior" types with cruisers but count me in; the place is 50 miles from me, how can I turn this down?  Can someone find out when the next one is?  If it's going to be here in the next couple weeks that could be great fun before it gets too cold to enjoy it.

I'm gone next weekend (Jamaica) and then I'm gone the weekend of October 14th (Oktoberfest).

Might have do this in the spring time.

I think it is this Saturday, I have too much going on in town to go. We will definitely have to get together next spring.  A nice long cruise to shake off the rust.
