Title: Oil leak
Post by: Black Snowman on July 02, 2003, 05:56:44 PM
I think I might have over-filled my oil  and now it seems to be leaking from the cover below the carbs. Before I start tearing things apart I don't need to has anyone run into this before?

It doesn't appear to be coming from the back of the cylinders (my 1st thought) and the top is oily. It also doesn't appear to be coming from crank case vent becaue the carbs are clean and it's over on the left hand side and the oil is all over the top. Mostly on the right even.

At first I thought perhaps the fill cap had leaked and it might have but it's not now that the oil level is back to normal.

Anyway I was bored and thought I'd throw this out there before I cleaned it up and started digging too much.

Are you talking about the intake manifolds? I cant seem to picture what you mean. If oil is leaking, its not due to overfilling.. its probably a bad seal/gasket somewhere.

Everything above the top of the case is clean. I was thinking that overfilling might have caused a seal to rupture under the extra pressure.

The oilest area seems to be the cover with the electrical connection coming out of it. The one right under the carbs. Everything foreward of that seems clean.

CHeck your cam timing tensioner bolts... that one had me going for awhile.. they were loose. Its a 6mm allen bolt i believe. Check those and then the starter bolts (that cover) although i dont think oil goes in there. :?
