what fuel is the best right now im running 98 octant fuel will higher octane fuel run any better? will it give more power?
Nope. Just more expensive.
I used to run exclusively on BP Ultimate, but then as prices increased I switched to normal unleaded and the bike went no different.
I haven't notice a difference betwix 89 and 93..
But 87 kills both my bikes. she bogs down and generally acts like I am running outta fuel.
nope, just use 87octane(thats the lowest in the states) i believe the aussies have somthing like 89 or 90, your system is different so im not totally sure. But if your running higher octane it wont help your engine anymore or less. Remember the engine was designed in the 70s so don't expect crazy performance outta hi octane. Save yourself the extra few bucks a week and get some upgrades instead.
i run 87 with no problems.
you dont need higher octane unless your engine knocks.
Octane is a measurement of the fuels flash point. so if it doesnt knock (pre-ignite) then it isnt going to perform any better on higher octane fuel.
Depends on the brand gas... EXXON seems to work very well. SHELL gas makes my GS knock a bit.
I only use the cheapie stuff (87)
i normaly run 93 in mine .. have since the day i bought it .. just how i am .. do the same thing with my eclipse ( says i have to run the high stuff .. and if you dont it acts crazy . i use to work at a dealer and i seen it happen .. ) i like the BP gas .. it burns the best in it for my bike . shell and shamrock(now valaro ) are pretty good
I exclusively use jet fuel. It runs awesome and makes the bike nearly half as fast as a jet... it is just a GS500 after all. Maybe I could get a busa or zx14 with jet fuel to go faster than a jet :dunno_white:
:icon_rolleyes:
Mine runs on guinness.
Wait no, thats me.
jet fuel is about 43 octane or something near that.....
it might start knocking on you, i'd be carefull using jet fuel if I were you
Damn... guess I should have researched my BS better. At least it sounded good.
Just replace "jet fuel" with "115 octane racing fuel"
jet fuel is basically K-1 kerosene....
Jup. Jet engines run well on diesel. Next time quote Avgas. That's also aerospace and beyond 100 octane.
yeah, 100 low lead
funny that it didn't double in price like reg gas this year........
I've put 100LL aviaton gas in my bike a couple times. Some people say it's good for the valve seats :icon_rolleyes: but I just like the way the lead smells  Didn't go any faster but if it costs $4.47 a gallon it must be better for it right? :icon_rolleyes: . Ahhhh, lead
Lol
Only reason to run higher octane fuel is if your bike doesn't behave properly on the lower grade stuff.
Or if you're like me and feel guilty if you don't give the GS the premium stuff.
Methane is best. Just hook a pipe up through your seat, eat a load of beans, wait a couple of hours, and off you go!
well the lowest i have ever seen is 92 octane
dose the bored look diffrent or is my computer just tripping fun bags
I run my bike on diesel fuel, I get awesome mileage

Make sure to use the low sulfur stuff.

our octane ratings are calculated differently than the rest of the world, so your 92 is probably the same as our 87.
...and you're probably just on drugs

probably on drugs??
In the UK we have standard Unleaded (95 RON) and Super Unleaded (98 RON), so even the lowest standard is a decent RON.
I run mine on 98 RON in hte hope that it will be nicer to the valve seats and make my engine last longer - but I can't say I have noticed any performance increase, compared to standard 95.

Higher octane isn't any better for your valve seats, the reason some people think that is because the old leaded gass may have some benefit to the valve seats. All the stuff you can get for the street is unleaded so the octane has no effect on the valve seats.
Talking to some old mechanics/pilots flying old radial engines, they add a little 2 stroke oil or marvel mystery oil to their (leaded) gas. they are convinced that it's good for the valves, especially the valve guides, and the cylinders and rings.
I tried using a little 2 stroke oil in my bike for a while (about 100:1 or less) and I noticed that the bike seemed to use absolutly no oil while I was doing that. Maybee the rings seat a little better :dunno_white: but I'm going to use some marvel mystery oil and see if it dose the same thing. besides, it smells like buble gum
