Title: happy new owner looking for after market parts for the GS500
Post by: Cozzy on October 01, 2006, 07:07:38 AM
I am a new happy new owner of a 1999 GS500 in fair condition, which orgianlly come with the bolt-on style bar, I reckon that is the only different between my bike and the US version. This is my first 4 stroke bike, still trying to get use to the feeling for 4 stroke bike, read, engine braking.

I am planning to feed the money in slowly. I have already replace the fork seals and the change the oil.
Now I am looking for after market Sprockets and chain, and later on I am planning to replace the brake disces, pads and braided line. Would you please share your valuable shopping experience.

I would also like to know how you deal with the rust in the usual area?

Thanks alot!  :thumb:

I think that one of the most common and noticeable aftermarket upgrade is the to replace the front springs with either progressive springs or constant rate springs.

I wouldn't worry about the chain and brake parts too much, just wait until they're worn.  The sproket can be replaced if you want to change the gearing a little.  Braided brake lines are pretty common too, i think you can search for that info.  Good luck!

you are right mate, the reason why I want to change the chian and sprockets because the chain are running loose and I think the front sprocket will be worn out too, the rear bake disces are nicely grooved by the pervious owner, so repleacement will needed shortly.
