So When I bought my bike in April I was told that the stearing head bearings needed to be replaced. Well I didn't notice the chatter and such the guy had been describing but i'm about to put in new springs anyway and I might as well get in there andd replace the bearings. The only thing is i've been looking around and all the companies (all balls for example) that make new tapered head bearings either don't carry them for the GS or their listed models only go to 2000. Is there something diferent about the 01 GS? :dunno_white:

As far as i know the only difference bewtween these bikes are in the 01+ models the gas tank got alil bigger, the carbs got 3 jets, main, mid main and pilot, the rear plastics were alil redesigned and the tail light looks round instead of square. thats pretty much it. Oh and 04+ got the fairings. The bearings should be the same for your task at hand.
The list probably hasnt been updated since then. I cant say for certain if there are any differences but I cant see any reason why there should be. The bearings used are standard taper-roller items and freely available from bearing factors. ISO Ref nos 32005 and 32006. Dont pay daft prices from dealers et, find a local bearing supplier, give them a call and get a quote.....offer to pay cash. I just did a quick search and found this outfit in your locality.

yep the bearings are the same, just did the twin disc conversion on my bike, and have been working with a guy that crashed his 2005 (we replaced the head bearings on his as he bent the bottom yoke) so i can confirm they are the same.
gettint the bottom bearing off is the hardest bit :D

its a 10minute job, as i said the hardest bit is getting the bottom headrace bearing off, other than that, childs play :D
