Post by: ostwayne on October 06, 2006, 11:26:06 AM
Just read this article in the local news website:
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/15695658.htm

Basically a motorcycle split lanes and some guy in a car went all road rage on him... makes you kind go  :cookoo: :dunno_white: :cookoo: :dunno_white: and  :o :o

In case the link doesn't work:

QuoteUnion City road rage sends motorcyclist to hospital
By John Woolfolk
Mercury News

Union City police are looking for the driver of a light-blue Buick who rammed a motorcyclist on Mission Boulevard and then savagely beat him on the roadside Thursday afternoon.

Police would not name the motorcyclist, a 53-year-old Union City man who underwent surgery at St. Rose hospital in Hayward for facial cuts and other wounds. His condition was not immediately available, but police said his injuries were not life-threatening.

Police described the driver as a 6-feet-6 inches tall, 300-pound African American man in his late 20s or early 30s who was driving a 1997 Buick Park Avenue Ultra with California license plate number 5LSA371. Police said the car is registered to an Oakland man matching that description, but they have not confirmed the driver was the owner.

The motorcyclist was driving north on Mission Boulevard on a 1983 Honda bike between the lanes of cars approaching the Decoto Road intersection, and stopped for the red light shortly before 5:30 p.m., police said.

When the signal light turned green, the Buick driver swerved toward the motorcyclist as the two accelerated into the intersection, police said. The motorcyclist pushed off the Buick with his leg to avoid a collision. But the Buick then maneuvered behind the motorcycle and then accelerated to ram it from behind, denting the back end, police said.

The two men pulled to the side of the road and as the motorcyclist approached, the Buick driver got out of his car and began hitting him in the head and face. Sgt. Chris Guckert said that the motorcyclist, who was about 5-feet-9 to 5-feet-10 inches tall and about 160 to 180 pounds.

``He pushes his door open and just starts pummeling the motorcyclist,'' Guckert said. ``The suspect apparently initially hit him in helmet and knocked him down a couple times but the guy kept getting up. The third time, he dropped him in a drainage ditch and kicked him in the face.''

The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, but it did not protect his face, police said.

The driver fled the scene as at least five witnesses stopped to render aid, Guckert said.

Police ask anyone with information to call (510) 471-1365 and ask for Detective Mahaney.

I had someone bump me earlier this year while I was lane-sharing on 101S near Redwood City. There are a lot of whackos out there.  :2guns:

What do you do when someone does that sort of thing? Do you kick their door in? Do you just say, "You @$$hole!" and accelerate quickly away from them? Do you get their plates and report them?

I worked with a guy that had some chick go all road-rage on him...  Just kept hitting him in the helmet.   :dunno_white: :cookoo:  Full-face == GOOD!

Add in an armored leather, armored boots, and some carbon knuckles...  I bet the story would have been different.

In this case, I gave the one-finger salute (only time I've ever done that on moto)  and got the hell out of there. Surprisingly enough, I was extremely calm the rest of the ride home. When I got home is when I started to shake!  At that point, it was margarita time (x3).

Now that I'm more (at least mentally) prepared for someone to purposefully try to harm/kill me on the road, I think I'd be more prepared to try to memorize their plate, pull over to the side of the road, and report the incident to the CHP. My hope would be that there would be an officer not too far away, because I'd do what I could to get his @$$ burned.

I was so busy trying to get away from the jerk that it didn't occur to me right then to try to get his information. I don't think my brain had rapped itself around the fact that he was really out to damage me.  :cookoo:  :2guns: I just wanted out of that situation ASAP.

Yanno.... many think I'm a peace-lovin' sort..and I kind of am.... but.... there are times that I'd really, REALLY like to be able to kick off a mirror or break windows with steel studs. This morning a taxi minivan decided he wanted to be in my space. He was coming over, coming over, coming over....pause...I know he saw me....and he came over anyway... I was exactly where he wanted to be. So I slowed, slowed, slowed, grabbed a handful of brake...and I would have paid plenty to be able to take brass knuckles to his face (especially since he wouldn't even look at me when I pulled up next to him and went  :dunno_white:).

Too many drivers just don't give a f%$k whether they hurt someone or not. Perhaps they think that everyone'll get out of their way forever? Today would have been a good day to have an airhorn and spikes.  :icon_twisted:

Harley riders dont wear spikes, they wear fringe ...
I swear Monday or tuesday I rode past a Harley rider ... this is what he was doing ...
He had a new, I mean brand new, some or other HD with hard bags etc, and he was in commute traffic wearing a soup bowl and trailing 17 types of fringe. He also was doing 40 clicks under traffic speed and 30 under the limit, and was in the fast lane excepting car pool. He also had a insanely possessed looking chick following him very very close in a new (02 and later) dodge ram ... I'm thinking he's on his first day on the bike or even a bike ... and he's too wound up fixated on the road immediately in front of the front wheel ... and this chick is his rescue team. Unless she rams him first ...   ...
Then that chick glares at me as I ride past in car pool, doing ~80 (speed of traffic on all lanes) and I am like WTF lady ... you're supposed to use car pool on a bike ... but then it strikes me ... she doesn't want her new harley riding man to be associated with the likes of me ... who actually ride the damn thing without an escort ... and actually do the right speed. Or worse still, figure out how to change lanes and get behind me in the Car pool lane, and worse still want to do it everyday ...
Anyway, this dude is damn unlucky ... I have done the same thing 1000's of times over ... never have had to be beaten ... But of course I am decked head to toe in carbon fiber and titanium ... so more than likely I'd been arrested and he'd been in hospital.
Cool.
Srinath.

The finger comes out every time the horn does. Evasive action -> horn -> get to safety -> finger.

She may have been road raging at bikers at the moment and he knew it and was riding slow to piss her off.  I do that alot in my car when people are asshats.  I tend to trap them a little so they can either hit me or slow (and hopefully calm) the f down.  In fact I was doing it this evening to a big ole Escalade that cut me off on a ramp in the rain.  I pinned him behind another car further down the ramp ... but decided it wasnt worth it when he blew by me again in exceess of 100mph.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a way to get that info and report it easily?  Without stopping the bike?  Like the bluetooth mod I've been tring to do ... one touch to initiate a call to 911.

Maybe a simple camera that you could get behind them, click a button on the bars and have a picture taken of them. Shouldn't be too hard to do, actually. A simple point and shoot camera, wire up the power to a switch on the bars and the shutter release to another button on the bars. Hell, if you're feeling adventurous enough you could power the camera off the bike so that whenever the bike is turned on so is the camera, therefore necessitating only one button to be modified in order to take a picture.

Been there done that Alpha.  Had something kinda like that set up in my cage, and it's a pain in the ass.  Just get a gun.  I'd rather have that than some bad angle pictures of me getting my ass beat.   :2guns:

I saw my brother in law crack the passenger rear view mirror of a woman's SUV cadillac (he just punched it) after she had cut in front of him when she was on the phone -- nearly killed him.  He was so pissed but afterwards was shaking.

If I cared what everyone else thought I would have listened to them when they called it a "murdersickle"

Yes i realize, probably not the best idea, but certainly the most satisfying.

It's more about tryin' not to give "murdercyclists" a worse name than we all ready have than it is about satisfaction over smackin' someone upside the head, no matter how well-deserved THAT might be.  :thumb:

The only time someone tried closing in on me, they lost their passenger side mirror to my handlebar, and I got outta there REALLY quick...

So if someone is psycho enough to start ramming you and try to kill you, why the heck would you pull over? That's a good time to move outta there and lose the rageaholic.

That's exactly what I did. However, looking back with 20/20 hindsight, I wish that I'd gotten his plate, pulled over, and called the CHP. HE was stuck in traffic, so he wasn't going anywhere too quickly.

Better that you get out of the situation safely than exacting justice on the offender. Karma will catch up with him  ;)
