I'd personally like to see seperate seat cowls for the rider/passenger. I don't like the dual cowels.
Some clipons would be cool too, but that will likely never happen.
EFI !!!

~40mm throttle bodies
~298cc injectors
~Digital ignition
Center-feed Ram air (like gen-1 R6's...huge scoop right in the middle of the nose)
52mm headers feeding to a 60mm midpipe, dumping through a titanium 2.25 liter muffler...either hanging off the side or routed through the swingarm and under the tail
K5 SV1000S speedometer/tach assembly
Same steel frame...but a removable subframe would be nice
...I can think of more but I'm getting a hard on.
A four valve head would be nice, keep it aircooled. A katana front end. Thats about it, everything else is to much fun to do yourself.
You can get whatever you want on it, it's just a mod.
It is Suzuki's bottom end bike and they will put no significant changes into the bike.
I bet it will be dead in the US by 2010.
Which makes one wonder what will replace it. Is the new bottom-end just going to be 600 supersports?

They won't get rid of them unless they don't sell enough of them. As long as they sell, they will keep making them. And I know people will always need a good beginner bike/commuter bike.

Dayam mak! I shot hot tea out my nose!
You've spent more on upgrades than a new GS is worth. :o
Oh yeah....EFI has my vote.
Suz is almost there with the new electronics anyway.

I disagree.
I think the other companies will start releasing more bikes to compete with the GS500f in the next 4 years, it's been a successful couple years for sporty looking beginer bikes, so I think Suzuki will haveto keep up with new features on future models to compete with any beginer models yamaha and honda might put out, as well as the existing kawasaki 500.

four valve head and EFI for the motor Up the compression too their is no reason to be running 9:1 any more. Beef up the front end with a more appropriate spring. Clip on's need I say more. If Suzi would implement these few changes to the GS500 it would remain competetive as an entry level bike that more experenced riders could have fun on. As it is the only reason mine is still around is for the wife to ride till she's ready to step up to a FZ6.
don't know why you clowns all want bigger rubber. The bike doesn't need it. In fact, riding it back to back with my EX650, the GS is lots more fun around town because you can throw it around so easily. Part of the credit for that goes to the profile of the rear tire.
the GS won't change. when emissions control finally kills it, people will just buy a DRZ400SM or an SV650. Yamaha and Honda have no streetbiles available sub-600 I4. I can't see Kawasaki keeping all 3 EX's (250, 500, 650) around much longer.
f4
a GS500R.....
No fairing, nakid again
Dual discs in front
REAL clip-ons
Solo seating w/optional pad for passenger
Tightened up forks & shocks

I wonder if the manufacturers realize that they're killing off the market for anything but cruisers.
I've had a chance recently to talk to a few people who want to start riding. They're ALL, every one of them, looking at cruisers and only cruisers. When I ask them why, I get variations on the theme that "crotch rockets" scare them. Well, they're right to be scared, but they're also completely unaware that there's anything less than an all-out sports bike available, OTHER than cruisers... and now that even the smallest-engined, most upright street bikes are fully faired, they can't tell the difference between them by looking.
The thing is, once they start riding cruisers, they tend to never try riding anything else. If all the entry-level riders are diverted away from street bikes, where's the future market going to come from?
It's not that they're trying to kill the market, but they sell what sells. Cruisers and standards will always be the primary sellers because they're the "American" image of a motorcycle. I'm nearly willing to bet that more than half of the hard core sport riders out there think of a classic cruiser image when someone says "motorcycle"...and when you take into consideration that manufacturers like Suzuki underestimate demand for the sportbikes every year along side producing more units every year, while their cruiser and standard lines sit on showroom floors sometimes for years, they must be doing something right.
Sportbikes will continue to drift in and out of popularity...it's what they do.
Offer a naked and a faired version. The carbs are fine. Wider wheel and possibly separate seats. Everything else I like about the gs. Basically an sv with the gs engine, ya know?
if they put half this stuff on a gs, the price would go up, prolly to the point whre youre more likely to buy a gixxer :dunno_white:
ok i got to ask, why the f%$k does every one hate the fairing? i mean really why.

It's ugly, heavy, awkward, ugly, and overly wide, and ugly.
Naked bikes are just nicer. And I dont think it would cost too much to put a Katana front end, better suspnsion, a four valve head, and a nice set of clip ons. A bti more, but well worth it, and what would it be up to? $5700?

then why do i have faster lap times with it on?

Becaue your riding has improved...not because your suddenly aerodynamic ride knocked you up a few notches. Fairings aren't going to do anything for you until you start getting into the lower/mid tripples.

+1
so, what your saying is... even though i cut 5-10 secs at jennings witht he fairing on than off its just me?
or that same time(S) diffrence at the CMP track that its just me? i think not.
no trust me, it's just you. The GS500 isn't near fast enough to find a 5~10 second gain just from aerodynamic efficiency while going around Jennings. The straights at Jennings aren't long enough for a GSXR 1000 to find a 5~10 second gain...
You may have been capable of the faster lap times without the fairing but with it maybe it puts you in a "sporty" mode and you ride with more confidence as though you goign faster cause of the looks. Kinda like when you get new shoes and you think you can run faster.....ok maybe thats just for 5 year olds....and me.
i ment fast with fairing. but, i can see were some may say one way is faster and slower in the other form.
its my personal opinion that the bike is better with the fairing, not for looks but smoothness in movement, while at speed. i am a big fella so i have a hard time staying on the bike at 95 plus with out the fairing. so that could also be the problem
I can see why so many people don't like the fairings, but it's really not that hard to just take them off.. (you can even sell them on the 'bay for some extra loot).
Even if I didn't like the fairings, I'd rather the bike have them so I can take them off and sell them.
I just thought it'd be interesting to point out that the D/SB D/SS Clubman racing at Jennings, the class the GS would run in, falls in the 1:28-32 range. The D/SS class winner last July (WERA) ran a best race lap of 1:29.1. The A/SB (1,000cc bikes) winner was a 1:22.8 (fastest race lap was a 1:17.6 in C/SS, 600cc bikes by Brian Stokesr).
There's BARELY a 10-second lead between the fastest D/SS rider, and the fastest rider period.
the gs may fall in that time, but isnt that fast. i will tell you right now.
i know right now i have to tear down my engine, major oil burning. rings are fried

Umm...
That's confusing.
How can it make that time and yet not be fast enough to do it?
I would like them to redo the front end. I like it to be more like the GSX-R, I like the 03 to 04 gsx-r front end (light and the hole in the front) and maybe the slit seat not the one big seat. I also like more HP but that would make it compeat with the SV so it won't proplem happen
I think mak was more so trying to say, a bike with triple the horsepower has a lap time ten seconds faster than GS level bikes. Theres no way adding a fairing will drop 5-10 second off your lap times.
