So i just noticed the cable connected from the tachometer to the engine head has a small leak in it. I see what looks like oil coming out of it. Obviously im gonna replace the cable but am wondering what problems this could cause, only thing i can think of and have noticed is that sometimes when im applying a consistant throttle,the tach needle "jumps" a little. Im thinking the cause is from the small leak i have. Also will this affect the engine or anything else on the bike?
nah no drama, it may drip on the exhaust and cause it to smoke, other than that nothing will go wrong.
it may be the oring seals that have burst, unscrew the bolt and pull the whole unit off and have a look.
it also may be that your tacho cable isn't tightened up enough,

It's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO easy to fix.
First, try to tighten the cable... If that doesn't fix it:
1. Find the part on a fiche.
2. Order the part or call around for it.
3. Wait for new part (or go pick it up).
4. Unscrew the tach cable.
5. Get a small hook-type-tool (a paper clip might work out).
6. Use the tool the pull out the old seal.
7. Pop in the new one.
8. Screw tach cable back in.
9. Tighten to spec (whatever that is).
I did mine in about 5 minutes... The hardest part is getting the old seal out.

if you want I'll sell you my old tach cable for like $8. I replaced it b/c I thought it was broken, turns out it was fine. The only thing is it doesn't screw in all the way into tachometer (it got stripped), only about half way, but it's plenty enough to work correctly.
I don't think he'll need a cable once that seal is replaced... Mine used to jump and bounce too...

Thats right, I agree with the previous comments.....there is a little o-ring in there that needs changing, but a loose bezel will also cause a leak and erattic tacho readings so try tightening it up first. No need to change the cable unless its worn, have a look where the cable exits the outer sheath, it goes from round to square-section. If the corners have worn off its time to replace it, if not dont bother.
Yeah i fig it wasnt anything major, and it looks pretty self explanetory as to installing a new cable. Actually i think its more than the seal at foul play, the actual cable has a small leak, i mean in the hose, like it might be a hole the size of a pin but yeah looks like ill just buy a new cable. And the leak is verrrrry slow and miniscule. Ill get the cable from bikebandit or ron ayers.
