I bought a brake light modulator from Targa recently. Unfortunately it's not one of those kinds that flash 3-4 times and goes solid, rather it flashes continuously as you brake. I've searched Google and the AMA website, but I can't find anything about brake light modulator laws for WA state.
Does anyone have any info about this? It's not an easily reversable mod (requires cutting the positve brake light wire), so I'd like to know before making it permenant.
Thanks,
Chilly Willy
According to my MSF instructor, a "continually flashing" tail light is not legal in WA state.
Search the WA GOV site...

Actually... I'm lazy... Post something here: http://www.pnwriders.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=20
Some lawyer on there will now. :icon_razz:
^That's the same thing my instructor said during my class.
I AM A STATE INSPECTOR FOR NC AND THAT'S NOT LEGAL HERE :)
So...what type of brake light modulator would be legal? Any linkies?
none nation wide. we at cycle gear tell that to all persons buying it
Have you seen my KNIGHTRIDER lights?
When the brake is not pressed, the light goes back and forth. When the brakes are used, it flashes 10 times then stays steady.
Those aren't legal in MA, but I've had NO cops pull me over. And I'm 100% sure at least a couple dozen have seen them.
Although I have yet to install them, the Kisan PathBlazer and Tailblazer are, in theory, US/Canada-wide legal modulators. Whether or not they comply in practice is another story (police may hassle you regardless); I'll try to post pics and results once I get them working.
Thanks for the tips. I have the Pathblazer installed and it was $$$$$$, thus I didn't even think to check for the Tailblazer. The tail light modulator I bought from Targa cost me all of $13. Unfortunately, the web-description did not mention about the continuous blinking.
Although I'm not entirely sure, I think the types of modulators that blink a few times and go solid are legal, whereas the continuous ones are not.

That's what I've heard as well.
