Title: HELP!
Post by: Cam22 on July 04, 2003, 01:21:06 PM
My bike all of a sudden loses power as I am cruising along. I've got plenty of fuel, and it's not that I'm shifting too early.  It might be something with the petcock, because when I switch it to reserve it runs just fine. Does anyone know anything about this? It's a 94, w/13,500 miles. Sound at all familiar? Do I need to get a new petcock or rebuild something in that area? Please please help! Thank you!   :(

Does it lose power randomly or only when the fuel level (miles traveled) reaches a certain point?

Seems to be random. First time was Tuesday after I had ridden about 40 miles and then it happened yesterday after only 3 miles or so.

As was suggested to me for a similar problem, try cleaning out the screen in the fuel tank.  Remove it and give at a good once over w/ carb cleaner.

Also, stay tuned for results from Von Vesters experiments with (a) riding mower petcock(s).  See the thread Need fuel valve (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3099).

Does the symptom only occur when you're running at high RPMs?  Or is there no real pattern?  (Just wondering if you would characterize the behavior as "fuel starvation" when the carbs are trying to suck a LOT of fuel....)
