Title: One cylinder running lean
Post by: cagedbunny on October 12, 2006, 12:32:41 PM
Finally got my '96 GS running the other day; it's been sitting since '96, and only has 1100 miles on it.  Among the many things I replaced, I added a full V+H exhaust, K+N "lunchbox", and re-jetted the carbs (150/40/2 #4 washers.)  Idle air screws are at 3 turns out.  The carbs are units from a 2000 (o.g. carbs were in terrible shape, and missing some bits.)

I let the bike idle in the driveway for about 10 minutes, and checked the temperatures on the head using a pyrometer.  The left cylinder was reading ~185, the right between 220-240!  Checked the plugs, and the right is bit lean.  What's my next move?  I figure both carbs should have the same settings on the idle screws, so I probably shouldn't just try to adjust the right screw.  Suggestions?

Did you synchronize the carbs?

Thats a negative.  The tool should be available this weekend, or I'll have to buy one.  Is it necessary if the butterflies were not taken apart?

You can make a tool at home depot for under $10. search under carb synch.

It's a good idea.  Yes.
