hey i know alpha and a few others go to trackdays all the time ... but those are just like .. practice .. do they also have races there to ? i mean i'd like to do a few trackdays to get the hang of it take a few classes and stuff .. but i'd be more in to racing i'v raced motocross for years and love the rush and the feel of it .. and i would love to take a shot of street racing ... just some amature stuff do they do that ? i mean i know i dont have a mod'ed bike so thats gonna make it hard on me to get any where with it but ... is there tracks that do it . ( i live in texas by the way so its probably something that alpha would answer but any thing from anyone is welcome :) )

I have a pair of their gauntlet gloves that I ride with all of the time. They're nice gloves at a good price.
wera.com is the only race you may beable to get into right away, but i would ditch the 500 , and get a 600 that is a little more suited for that type of stuff, for the first few times the 500 will be great but it gets old geting pasted the in the strate's and having to pass in the cornnes al the time, then fight to keep that spot int he strites again
the 600 is THE biggest single racing class with (at least here in socal) 50-60 riders gridded up for the production novice races. its a clusterfuck. you want to be competitive?get a 125 or 250 2-stroke...those classes arent nearly as dangerous.
Most tracks also run races. you'll need to take a novice racers school and prep your bike as a race bike, which is much more intensive than a trackbike (safety wiring everything alone is a big part of it). Racing changes everything-you should know that from mx racing....
wera or cmra in your area ,clubman and vintage 5 gs is a hoot to race and relatively cheap. :cheers:
check out your local track; give them a call or they may even have a website w/ all the info like NHIS up here does.
you're probably going to want to do quite a few trackdays before you break into racing. yes trackdays are "practice", but racing is all out balls to the wall riding. you really have to be ready for it. I remember last year at NHIS I heard a rider was killed in the STARTING GRID when something went horribly wrong & he was hit.
at any rate, just by going to trackdays & talking to the instructors you'll probably learn a lot about the amateur racing scene. people who street race are actually discouraged from doing trackdays because it really is a different kind of riding. they dont even allow laptimers for trackdays at NHIS.
you dont need to get a 600 to start racing; that's just like throwing yourself into the fire.
a lot of tracks have ultra lightweight classes for bikes just like the GS or EX 500s. There are a lot of them up here, as well as a TON of RG250s and such. going and getting a 600 to START racing is... very unsafe for everybody if you havent been riding 600s for a long time already.
keep in mind that no matter what bike you're riding; you're going to be getting passed on all sides and most likely finish at the bottom of the pole for a while. You have to be OK with learning the ropes slowly; otherwise the world will come crashing down in a heartbeat.
