Title: back from kittyhawk, NC (56K WARNING)
Post by: natedawg120 on October 16, 2006, 07:58:22 AM
figured i would see if anyone is going to this one.  I am goinging with some friends from Fredericksburg and meeting them in Kittyhawk.  As long as the weather hold out it should be a nice ride.  I am going to ride my friends daytona 675 too, i can't wait, it is going to rock.  20 dollar registration and i am sure some sort of food will be provided, leaving from the HD in Kittyhawk on saturday at 11:00am (i think lol)

got back from the lighthouse ride last night and this is the first change i have had to post anything.  It was a pretty ride, my only complaint is that there aren't any curvy roads in the outer banks lol.  It was a gorgious day and the ride was about 155 miles long.  I have pics of our little group, 6 bikes total.  Two Shadows, a Harley, a Goldwing, the Daytona 675 and my little GS.

Now for the good part ... the 675 ...    :o

Those bikes are nuts.  The clip-ons are a bit closer together than i am use to so that threw me off for a bit.  It handled like a dream, a little high feeling though, and is very narrow as compared to the GS which makes it feel a lot lighter.  On the way back in a clean straight strech i wanted to see how it accellerated so i down shifted and opened her up ...  :o holy crap that thing is fast with ass tons of torque.  Throttle response is very fast and smooth, thank you fuel injection, which was nice and not having to downshift to pass all the time is great.  Everything is just so smooth.  Brakes, oh where do i start.  If you think the GS has brakes you wrong, the brakes on this bike are awesome.  the clutch is very smooth and shifting is easy and smooth.

After riding it I promply to my friend how nice of a bike he had and that I was 100% correct in saying that it wasn't a good starter bike  .  After observing him suring the ride he isn't to sure of himself on the bike yet, maybe a good thing, and he takes things slow.  He some noob mistakes and I took him out and gave him pointers on how to work on them, at least he listens about that.  He really needs to work on e-braking and the off clutch on gas transition better because he is way to jerky with both, i also let him know that is a good way to get hurt.

All in all a good ride and I am very happy that Gary is still taking it slow, not being over confident and trying to learn from all those with more experience than him.  He might be alright after all, phew.

PS: I will put up some pics later when i have a free moment.

Good deal!  Sounds like you had an awesome time.  I'm super jealous, there isn't anything cooler than cruising around with some friends with good scenery.

On a side note, what kind of bars do you have on your GS?  I like.

they are slightly modified clubmans that can be had at any motorcycle shop for less then 20 bucks.  they won't clear the fairings without minor modification.  Does anyone know if drag bars clear the fairings and tank and full lock?
