Title: Purchasing fork seals
Post by: l3uddha on October 16, 2006, 11:43:03 AM
I need to replace my fork seals.

are basically all the model years the same? I ask because most sites, like bikebandit, are listing about $25 for 2004 model seals.
I searched for the 98 model year seals on bikebandit also & they're only $10.

also- they come in sets of 2, correct?

If you're ordering from the parts fiche, you'll get one seal.

I'm pretty sure they all are the same. All years have 37mm forks. I think that they usually come in pairs (mine did) but you better call and make sure before ordering.

well it doesnt make any sense because both of those prices were from the parts fiches.

$25 for only ONE oil seal for the '04?

I'm going to order probably tomorrow & I'll call first.

can anybody second that they are the same for all the years????

Look at the part numbers.  If they're the same, then the seals are the same.

ummm order off ebay...get good seals, faster shipping than ron ayers and bikebandit, and they come in pairs so you don't have to sit around wondering.

the part #s are different.
I do not see any 04 model seals on ebay.
I dont know about some of the brands I'm seeing on ebay. I'll go with what I know works.

yes you were right. I asked a sales rep at bikebandit today.

that sucks.

in 2002 and previous, the price for each fork seal was around $10 per seal.

now on the 2004+ models the seals have jumped to $25.10 PER SEAL.

wtf is up with that?

has anyone else with a 2004+ model GS changed their seals???? what did you pay & where'd you get them?

OK OK

I've been told again that all of the forks and internals are the same and the seals are the same as well. I'm gonna go ahead and order from seals from 2002 for 10 bucks a pop & see how it goes. I'll keep u all posted.
