Title: How much to spend on rejetting?
Post by: Chilly Willy on October 18, 2006, 10:43:30 AM
Hey all,

While cruising e-bay, I noticed a few rejet kits for sale.  They seem awfully steep in price, but then again, I'm new to all of this.

What is a reasonable amount to pay for a carb rejet kit?

You wont need gaskets for a normal rejet.  The carb uses o-rings.

Instead of useing ebay head to a local motorcycle shop or dealer and buy the jets you need.  Should run you about $15.00 to $20.00 for all the jets.

Crap should have asked what year bike do you have?

Oh you have a 94 then it will be cheaper.

Yup, Blue is right, you don't need to wast your money on an overpriced "kit" just buy the jets and do it yourself. You don't need any O rings either unless you break one.

Cool.  Thanks!  Yeah, that kit (~$70-90) seemed a little too expensive to me.  I'll read the How To  posts and then head to my local bike shop.

I've called all the shops in bremerton and nobody has any of the sizes you want  You could try the Seattle shops but it'd be easier and cheaper to order them from someplace. I forget where but others on here have ordered them and I'm sure they will chime in. I need some pilot jets, so let me know before youorder and I'll split shipping with you.  :thumb: The only problem is that some places make you order at least 4 of each jet size. No problem with the pilots (cause I need some) but you'll have to eat the two mains, still probally cheaper than getting them from a shop though.

Sounds good!  I'm not there yet (cash wise or mod wise), but I'm thinking about adding a lunchbox filter and when I do, I'll need to rejet.  I'll shoot you an e-mail when I've scraped up the cash to order some parts.

Most folks here have been ordering from sudco. Unfortunately, sudco recently instituted a policy of only selling jets in sets of four. Apparently they don't want to deal with us.

I'm rather new to all of this--is that a good thing or are the kits including too many parts?

ChillyWilly - For a 94 GS ... jets ... every damn thing you'll need to jet it for $25 (priority mail shipping the freaking things get lost otherwise)
Let me know what setup, I'll ship the next day, I have em sitting at home.
Pilots, mains, washers and allen bolts for the float bowls.
Of the srinath will jet it for $40 + 12 shipping+say $2 paypal, or send check with carbs for $52.
DJ wants to to drill your slides and plug one and whatever crap ... unneccesary with this method - Use mikuni jets and stock needles.
Cool.
Srinath.

Parts list for rejet:

1. Jets
2. #3 or #4 washers to shim the needle (I like #3)

Thats all you need assuming nothing in your carbs / worn / dead when you rip into them.  Theres all kinds of rejetting matrices and thing on this board and on the wiki if you need advice on the jet sizes along with the part numbers. If you want to make it real easy on yourself just call your local dealer and tell them what bike you have and what sizes of jets you need and they will order them (my dealer ordered direct from sudco, hence me having to buy in sets of four).  The cost was only a few buck above sudco and if i ended up with the wrong parts I could yell and scream at the dealer instead of myself.  Allen bolts are totally optional.  I didn't bother because I'd rather take the extra 10 min to pull the carbs instead of trying to work on them while they're on my bike.
