Title: Cleaning Rust Off a Knurled Surface
Post by: Chilly Willy on October 23, 2006, 12:24:45 PM
Hi All,

I bought a used Plexi3 fairing a little while ago and noticed that the bottom brackets are fairly rusty.  Normally I would just sand off rust, but since this is a knurled surface, it's a little hard to do.  Is there a compound I could soak the brackets in that would take away the rust?

Rotary wire brush, power drill and a vice. Then Fertan rust converter....or something similar.

Yeah, a wire brush will do the job just fine. Once the rust is off you can just use some spray paint. The rust converter stuff works great, but that's for when there is still rust left on, if you get it off you only need a little paint.

I've rever heard of using vinegar.  :dunno_white: that seems like it'd be worth a shot, couldn't hurt
