Kind of looks like it justs snaps on to the seat...? Can you post a larger pic?
It does look good :thumb:
Damn, that looks great... how much you want for a black one?
Why would you want a black one? you seat is black isnt it ??? Just get a clear one then
Looks GREAT! I like it :thumb:
+1 on larger pics, and info on how it mounts
Pretty cool! Did you make that or buy it?
Info info info!
i just made it . it's fiber glass and it mounts with a strap under the seat. i will post a bigger pic if i can.

i will be making a mold so i can make a few more send me a email or pm if you want more info.
I've been kickn around a solo seat/race tail idea. Would need a extra seat and tail. Then use that as a mold or a base for the new tail. I've got zero fiberglass experince though. :( how did you make it?
You should get a zoomed out picture so we can get a good idea of what the bike looks like with it on there.
-Turd.
That looks awesome!

I've got a black/silver bike. So either would go well with the paint scheme. White would not. I can do my own rattle can job though. Smartash!
PM sent.
im def going to try and make one... nice job man!!!!
here are more pics and one of the strap that it mounts with. i will make some. i have to mold them put a nice thin coat of bondo on them and sand and prime them. so how mutch are they worth $ i don't know and don't want to get over on any one or mess my self over so comments? 38.41 plus shipping.
Dunno?
I think that looks good. I'd be interested in one. Let me know how much they are going to be once you make more.
i just put up a poll in odds and ends on the price for it. so vote
nice work
thanks bro' :thumb:
Very snazzy.
Makes me wish I was keeping the GS.
ohhh i like :) i'd like mine a bit higher :P but not much ! .. far as price .. just think ..how much did you pay for the products to put it togeather ..... did you use it all ? or just some of it ? then say do it at .. 30 bucks per hour for how ever many hours it took you
Dmn decent! I bet that would look tight with that hanlde off the back! And I'd give ya fitty bucks for one :dunno_white:
I'd buy one for $40-$50 ... And I'd be happy with black OR silver ...
I love the cowl man great idea!!! have you ever messed with gelcoat?? If you waxed the one you made with mold release wax, sprayed it with gelcoat, then layered fiberglass to make the mold, you wouldnt have much, if any bondo to do...gelcoat makes awsome molds
that is fine if it is an outer mold but to get the nice fit that it has it has to be an iner mold.

With an outer female mold....vacuum bag, use a breather ply (like teflon cloth) against the part along with a secondary breather ply and you will have a good inner surface.
I am glad others are dealing with this hassle now.
but like i was saying it is a male iner mold to give it a snug fit. so it won't flap in the wind :cookoo: and it only needs one strap to hold it on. :thumb:
But then you have a lot more work to have a good smooth finish.

thats what I thought, time=money
but a female or outer mold will produce a part that is either too thick or too thin. the cowl the way i make it is nice and snug. not too big or too small. hey a little more work is fine i love doing it.

All the parts I made, the way I described, were about 1/16" thick but extremely strong.
Seriously, when you get one made in black, let me know, I'll be the first to buy it ... or if you do it in primer, I'll finish painting it ...
++ for primer. (I really gotta paint my 1/4 fairing too... :icon_confused:)
they will all be primer.you have to paint to match. 8)
Any of them ready yet?
i have a few of them ready but i had nick (NGFL) who was going to give me a rewiew of them and a write up but he crashed his bike and daves bike so it is not done yet and i have had a lot of probs. as of late so i am not going to make very many of them at one time. but i will be making them and a few are ready now i was just waiting on nick to do the review.
Yeah.. sorry bout that dude... Once I get back to school though, I can PROBABLY (assuming I get some cash, so I'm no longer -$40 in my checking account) go out and get some sand paper/spray paint to get that thing on. My bike doesn't currently have tail plastics, but the seat is still there. And honestly, it will look a lot better with your cowl on there, since the wreck kinda tore the back of my seat a little bit. I've been slacking on that, since I've been busy with school. I'll get on it ASAP, with pics and everything.
no prob. here bro. i have had a lot going on and have not made that many of them yet. so thats cool
On the 1st, I'll buy one. How much again? $40?
well going by the poll in o&e and adding up all my time it will be $60 shipped and it will be unfinished (ie you will have to paint and put on the trim after painting.) if you want it to match your bike you may need professional finishing but i will send instructions with it.
any updates?
-Anti 8)
$130 + shipping last I checked in 2006 when this thread was posted. :icon_mrgreen:

PM'd
Note to say these cowls are top notch in my opinion.
Mine has arrived safe and sound and as soon as it's sprayed, it's going on the bike and will be posted up for all to see.
Great work, fits like a glove, is the perfect size for my F (not lose, perfect fit) and Im sure when painted, it'll look great.
Infinitely better design than any other cowl I ever seen for a GS500F....for sure, no question. :thumb:

Hey how is the progress with this seat cowl?
You still making them?
Looks great btw!
That picture was only from SEVEN years ago..
What do you think? :technical:
Right :) well just wondering - just looking for some ideas and found this post and decided to check it out
Balu Racing makes one:

Also, CowlTech makes one... but I won't provide a link... They have a pretty bad rep, and you would be wise to steer clear. I only mention them in case you come across them in your search, to look the other way.
- Bboy
Cowltech took ages to ship and not that great and over priced.
I had the Balu Racing for E and F. Nice items. Ended not using them and they are now enjoying the sun and fun in Australia on other members' bikes.
ok thanks for the links and for the warning - is it worth making it on my own? I never worked with fiberglass but i watched few vids and it didnt look to complicated
You could very easily make your own with fiber glass. Its a simple process. Just make a mold of the cowl you want, or even do it directly on the seat with wax paper covering everything you dont want the resin on, and then apply the matting and resin and vuala, your done! After a few more coats of each and some grinding and modifications of course.

Well, that or spend $60 and buy a nice one then paint it. Sometimes it is a toss up of your time versus cost. Or educational experience verses $.
The shape of the Balu Racing ones is nice. They slide on the seat from the back. Can be removed if necessary or you can add a screw or two so they never can be removed.
Yeah I am thinking the same - the cost of making it myself will most likly take time and way too much labor so i think i will order the Balu cowl but i noticed that its all in Germany and all the words also - any chance finding it here in USA or Canada?
Here you go

I didn't realize it was only 60 dollars. Buying the fiber glass mat, resin, brushes, and everything else to make the cowl your self would cost about the same and you could even loose some quality doing it yourself depending on how you make it. In that case just buy the cowl. You could download google chrome and have it translate the whole web page for you.
Well, 39 euros and postage

Carry on!
This is gonna be a weird question, but how would you buy one if you don't have "euro's" or can read German? Lol
Contact them directly?
Contact them. They usually have English speakers and you can translate the website using google translate
