Title: I want One!
Post by: jake42 on October 27, 2006, 08:40:09 PM
Found it in the back of this month's Popular Science
https://www.revopower.com/main_detect.html

Supposed to to get 200mpg and get you up to about 20mph on flat ground.

I personally like how it's all integrated into the front hub.

for only $400...

very tempting...  My daily work commute is around 5 miles a day (to and back)

of course, I won't get to enjoy riding a motorcycle...

very interesting, but no thanks.  A prefer to pedal.  If I want real low gas milage, I'll buy a scooter.  more power, road friendly, and looks cooler.  nice idea tho.

additionally, I wouldnt want that extra 12 lbs on the front wheel, where it affects handling. But I guess the market for this are people just putzing around town...

This is my favorite line from the ad:

"Close to 2 million drivers lose their licenses each year because of DUIs or other traffice violations.  For the period of their license suspension, each of these people represents a potential RevoPower customer."

I can just see the advertising folks sitting around trying to come up with a "spin" for this wheel:

"Yeah!  Let's sell these to drunks!  Whoo Hooo!"

I like the design. I thought the two stroke mounted on the hub was a pretty cool idea. THey say it's only 65db's at 20 feet, but I noticed with the cheesy music in the video that you couldn't really hear what it sounded like at all. Normal conversaton is about 45-60db's, but I"m curious as to what it sounds like right underneath you. Oh and I'd have to add my own fuel tank. The one quart bottle would get annoying to fill up every 50 mmiles or so, maybe just strap a gallon milk jug to the bike.

  The best part is that they quote www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net, but they're selling a GAS POWERED wheel.  :cookoo:  I don't think they quite get the message...

If their website is so bad that it requires flash player 8 (available for windows only) to do anything, why would I buy anything from them?
