Title: so guess what
Post by: UnSaniTiZ on October 31, 2006, 08:29:33 PM
So I come outside today, and what's happened? Some idiot hit my month-old 04F, knocked it over, and didn't leave a note. Broken mirror, broken clutch lever, broken rear fairing, and serious scratches on both sides of the main front fairing. This is basically an emotional release/pity post, so give me some sympathy. Also, if anyone wants to give me mirrors/a clutch lever/fairings, those would be appreciate too. I might be able to find the guy cuz I got a few license plate digits and the color/type of car from a couple witnesses. Seriously though, if anyone has a stock right mirror they'd be willing to let go cheap, let me know.

I'm F$%$ing PISSED.

I think I am about to replace my mirrors, I could get you my right one just pay shipping.  The only thing is that it has some scratches on the arm and casing when an idiot hit my bike. At least you got a tag number. Mine was hit 3 times, first two I didnt see and the third I ran after and what do you know they didnt have a tag.  Just pm me if you are interested in the mirror.

First...it could be worse...at least the bike was still there.

Second...an '04 model is not a month old.

Third...call your insurance.

already called my insurance, not covered , and I meant that I bought the bike a month ago, not a month old. But come on guys, I want pity, not I've had worse experiences. Id give you guys the pity.

PS seaheifer, I'll send you a PM in a little bit.

Bummer man, that really sucks. Yeah, I don't have insurace on my bike either, so I'd be screwed if something like that happened to me. Worst case, you could make it into a naked bike, but you shouldn't be forced to.

I'd try to track the guy down without the cops and then do a little vigilante justice. You know the kind involving fingernails and pliers, or rocks and windshields if your stomach can't handle it.
Good luck

I feel your pain.  It's happened to me twice.  First guy backed into it, shoved it 1 foot sideways without tipping it, and dented the exhaust and bent the sidestand.  Someone inside the shop I was in told me and I went outside and we came to an amicable agreement.  But another time, someone backed into it outside my place, knocked it over, and drove off.  Cracked the mirror housing and broke off a bar-end and added another scratch to the crankcase.

Good luck fixing it!

the worst part is I do have insurance, but since I'm new and young collision insurance would've been another 3grand a year, and I couldnt pony that up. I have some info on the guy so I will definitely keep an eye out for him, and do my best. As for vigilante justice? That comes when I find his car and can't get him to pay/cop to it. Im going to call the cops tomorrow morning and file a report. We will see what happens I guess.

/me is out

(I know some of you understand the "/me")

edit: I wasn't expecting the /me to actually work on the forum, haha. Nice

Wouldn't causing a similar amount of damage to his/her car be fair?  :dunno_white:  Probably even make you feel better!  :thumb:  Oh, but he has to fix his damage out of pocket too, or else it will just spoil the mood.  Perhaps then he would be a little more careful around other peoples property/prized posession!

Good luck with the repairs

but if you do find him and confont him about it .. he dont pay ... you toch his truck ... your the first person hes gonna name when he goes to the police station ... or worse .... you start a fight and you come out and your bike is on its center stand with no rear tire  :icon_lol: that would be kind of funny .. that would take a whole 2 sec. if you knew the size of all the stuff :P sorry about the bike .. extra 3 grand to fix somthing thats not your fault ! whos your insurence company ? i have progressive .. and i was looking to go to state farm everyone was telling me it was cheaper .... they wanted 20 bucks more a month ... but i went this year with no tickets and no wreaks so i went from 76 s month to 51 :) i like that !

As far as the insurance, is it really that expensive with a newer bike? I have a '90 GS and it was $300 for the year (12 months) for liability, comprehensive & collision with $250 deductible, $1,000 medical payments, and road side assistance. Also, I thought with comp and collision if the bike was stolen, wrecked, or vandalised that it would be covered. It is covered right? Thanks.

I have progressive too. If I do find him, I'm going to wait a while before I touch his car as to let the suspicion drop. I live in a pretty bad area too (college student with a nice campus and poor area). Really I'm looking back on it and I'm not as torn up about it as I was a few days ago. It sucks and all, but the worst damage was aesthetic, and the worst aesthetic damage was to an $100 piece for the rear fairing that goes around the seat (cracked/broken). Most of the other plastic is scratched, but it's not cracked.

I'm a new rider and I'm an 18 year old guy. The insurance costs!. I wish I could get full insurance for $300 a year. I'm paying $1500 without collision (though I do have a lot of medical coverage, just in case something happens).

Ditto, just turned 20 today and I have full coverage through progressive with a $500 deductable and it is around $800 a year!

damn...I pay less than $800 a year to insure everything.  House, car, bike, dogs, me, my rare southest asian ulayala tree...

I feel for ya dude, you have my sympathy. Apparently this is very common, it happened to me, luckily the girl who did it did it right in front of her own workplace (a restaurant) thus she was forced to leave a note. Ha ha.

But in a related event, I went to the parking garage where I park my bike (big brand new parking structure in pearl district of portland) and gee, the mirror, handlebar, and right side fairings were ALL fcked up. And the bike was about 25 feet from the attendant's booth.

Took me about 3 days of deductive reasoning til I figured a garage employee had to be involved. Persistent talking and calling and asking and gee, what do I find out? A Smart Park employee BROKE HIS LEG "while pressure washing near the bike, the bike fell on him, breaking his leg".

omfg. I just about flipped out. And the manager on the phone was like "yeah, you should be glad we don't sue you". That was his tone. I was like, "Man, shut the fck up you big baby, the only way my bike got knocked over was cause that idiot sat on it or somehow knocked it over himself".

Took him about 2 weeks to come to his senses but he ended up writing me a check for $500. In retrospect I could have gotten an estimate and had double or triple that amount paid, but I was happy with the result. Just goes to show you... anything can happen.

Just one more reason why motorcyclists should be able to pack a shottie on their bike. Or, rig up humongous explosive charges that detonate when knocked over. You could arm and disarm it before you left it unattended. It wouldn't help recover your losses any, but at least the mf'er wouldn't be able to drive off either.

Haha.

Sigh.

wow, that would've sucked had you been sued. At least you got paid. I'm less stressed about it than I was when it happened. Just a pain in the ass that I can't ride til that new clutch lever comes (tomorrow I think). Gotta replace the broken back fairing but that's about it. If I found the guy tho, still,  :2guns:

I would have broken his other leg...

So I was warming up my bike the other day .. parked in the striped section between 2 handicap spots that are almost never used at the office.  This lady comes out, hops in her TSX (with no handicap placard or plate mind you) and says to me .. if I had my Vette today, the door's wider and I'd just knock your bike over to get in my car.

Dawned on me when I was riding home that she meant she *would* do that ... not that it might accidently happen.  WTF.

UnSaniTiZ - that sucks man.  I had a period earlier this summer where my bike was getting knocked over almost every day.  The building engineer always picked it up before I got to work (I store it there), but still sucked.  Never found out who did it, and insurance won't cover that kind of thing since the bike is too old.  Won't cover theft either since it's not worth the liability to them.

You should tell her that she's lucky you're not riding your cinderblock today ...  ...
BTW a Corvette door is prolly worth more than a GS ...
Cool.

I'm sure I'll find a way to deal with her hubris (ok so hubris is a stretch but it's a fun word).
